El Liberal (Argentine Newspaper)
''El Liberal'' is a morning newspaper that has been published since 1898 in the city of Santiago del Estero, Argentina. Is one of the most important regional newspapers of the country. History El Liberal was founded by the political activist Juan Figueroa on November 3, 1898. His first print was 200 copies, in an edition that the media remember as "almost handmade", since it was printed with a hand press. It's the oldest newspaper in northern Argentina. In 1926, the newspaper was transferred to its current headquarters in the center of the capital of Santiago del Estero, and three years later the newspaper was sold to two lawyers: José and Antonio Castiglione; José exercised the direction of the newspaper until his death and was succeeded by his younger brother, Antonio, who redefined the orientation of the newspaper, changing it from an evening tabloid into a morning broadsheet, and leaving his characteristic opinion platform to a journalistic and informative format. Julio Carreras
Julio Carreras (h) (born August 19, 1949) is an Argentine author of 12 books and former guerrilla fighter. Born in San Pedro de Guasayán, Santiago del Estero, he studied piano, guitar and the plastic arts from the age of 4 till 14, when he began playing the electric guitar in rock bands. In 1972 he founded the artists' movement SER, which brought about the Primer Recital de Rock Nacional del Noroeste Argentino (July 1, 1972). His fiancée, Clara Ledesma Medina, was the core of this important movement. With this group, they published a magazine and with their many young adherents they turned to literacy work in poor neighborhoods. January 6, 1973 Clara died. Tomás Eloy Martínez (July 16, 1934January 31, 2010) was an Argentine journalist and writer. Life and work He was born on July 16, 1934 in San Miguel de Tucumán and is generally considered an influential and innovative figure in Latin America both as journalist and a novelist. Eloy Martínez obtained a degree in Spanish and Latin American literature from the University of Tucumán, and an Masters of Art at the University of Paris. From 1957 to 1961 he was a film critic in Buenos Aires for the ''La Nación'' newspaper, and he then was editor in chief of the magazine ''Primera Plana'' between 1962 and 1969. From 1969 to 1970 he worked as a reporter in Paris. In 1969 Eloy Martínez interviewed former Argentine President Juan Domingo Perón, who was exiled in Madrid. Since 2003 he started working for news television channel Todo Noticias and since 1993 he became a political columnist for the conservative newspaper ''La Nación''. Homero Nicolás Manzione Prestera, better known as Homero Manzi (November 1, 1907 – May 3, 1951) was an Argentine tango lyricist, author of various famous tangos. He was born on November 1 of 1907 in Añatuya (province of Santiago del Estero), Argentina. Manzi was interested in literature and tango since he was young. After a brief incursion in journalism, he worked as a literature and Spanish professor but for political reasons (in addition to his membership in the Unión Cívica Radical) he was expelled from his professorship and decided to dedicate himself to the arts. Ramón Gómez Cornet (1 March 1898 - 9 April 1964) was an Argentine painter. He was one of the forerunners of the modern Argentine painting. Biography Ramón Gómez Cornet was the son of Ramon Gomez, former Minister of Interior on Hipólito Yrigoyen's government and National Senator for Santiago del Estero province, and Rosario Palacio Achával Cornet.
