El Gringo (musician)
Shawn Brooks Kiehne (born July 3, 1976) is an American New Mexico musician from Los Lunas, New Mexico, he is best known by his Norteño (music), Norteño stagename El Gringo, he also performs country music under the name Shawn Brooks. Kiehne, who is of German heritage, was born in Los Lunas and graduated from Los Lunas High School. Kiehne learned Spanish working at his family's ranch in the El Paso, Texas area. In 2003 he began writing songs in the language. In 2005 he won second place in ''Sábado Gigante#Talent Competitions, El Gigante de Mañana'' and his first album, ''Algo Secuedió'', was released later the same year. New Mexico music ( es, música nuevo mexicana) is a genre of music that originated in the US state of New Mexico, it derives from Pueblo music in the 13th century, and with the folk music of Hispanos during the 16th to 19th centuries in Santa Fe de Nuevo México. The style went through several changes during pre-statehood, mostly during the developments of Mexican folk and cowboy Western music. During the early 1900s, country music and American folk music began to become incorporated into the genre.
