Las Cabras is a Chilean commune and city in Cachapoal Province, O'Higgins Region. This commune is known for agriculture and handcrafts. The commune's name comes from the many goats (''cabras'', in Spanish) that used to be in the mountains. Demographics According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Las Cabras spans an area of and has 20,242 inhabitants (10,621 men and 9,621 women). Of these, 7,548 (37.3%) lived in urban areas and 12,694 (62.7%) in rural areas. The population grew by 14.1% (2,504 persons) between the 1992 and 2002 censuses. O'Higgins Region
The Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region ( es, Región del Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins, ), often shortened to O'Higgins Region ( es, Región de O'Higgins), is one of Chile's 16 first order administrative divisions. It is subdivided into three provinces. It is named in honour of Bernardo O'Higgins Riquelme, one of Chile's founding fathers. The Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region is bordered to the west by the Pacific Ocean, to the east by the Republic of Argentina, to the north by the Valparaíso and Santiago Metropolitan Regions, and to the south by the Maule Region.
