''El buner d'Ordino'' ( ca, "The Piper of Ordino Parish") is an Andorran folktale of a bagpiper chased up a tree by wolves who fends them off with the sound of his instrument, the ''buna'' or ''sac de gemecs'' of Catalonia. Plot In the tale, the people of the town of Canillo Canillo () is one of the parishes of Andorra. Canillo is also the name of the main town of the parish. It turns out the piper had been walking on his way to the festival, but was surprised by a pack of wolves on Casamanya mountain. Sac De Gemecs
The ''sac de gemecs'' (; literally "bag of moans", also known as ''buna'' in Andorra or ''coixinera'' , ''gaita'' or ''botella'' ) is a type of bagpipe found in Catalonia (eastern Spain spilling over into southern France). The instrument consists of a chanter, a mouthblown blowpipe, and three drones. The lowest drone (''bordó llarg'') plays a note two octaves below the tonic of the chanter. The middle drone (''bordó mitjà'') plays a fifth above the bass. The high drone (''bordó petit'') plays an octave below the chanter, thus one octave above the bass drone. Canillo () is one of the parishes of Andorra. Canillo is also the name of the main town of the parish. The parish is considered the religious center of Andorra with the Sanctuary and Chapel of Our Lady of Meritxell, patron saint of Andorra, and contains one of the best-preserved romanesque churches in the Pyrenees, Sant Joan de Caselles. It has a population of 4,826, as of 2011. Despite having a tourist vocation, the parish of Canillo still retains many livestock and agricultural traits. Andorra is essentially Catalan speaking. The country has contributed significantly to the Catalan heritage. Language and literature The official and historic language is Catalan. Wolves In Folklore, Religion And Mythology
The wolf is a common motif in the foundational mythologies and cosmologies of peoples throughout Eurasia and North America (corresponding to the historical extent of the habitat of the gray wolf). The obvious attribute of the wolf is its nature of a predator, and correspondingly it is strongly associated with ferocity, loyalty, sharp intelligence and appetite for freedom, making it the symbol of the warrior on one hand, and that of the devil on the other.
