Ekolsund Castle
Ekolsund Castle is a manor house situated at Enköping Municipality in Uppsala County, Sweden. History A estate has been known since the 14th century. In the 15th century, it was owned by Bengt Jönsson (Oxenstierna). After having been acquired by the Crown in 1542, it was used by the royal family. It was the residence of Princess Sophia of Sweden from 1578 to 1611. The current building consists of two wings designed in the second half of the 17th century by Simon de la Vallée and Nicodemus Tessin. In 1747, it was granted to the future King Gustav III of Sweden, who often used it as his summer residence until he acquired Drottningholm Palace in 1777, especially as Crown Prince. In 1785, Gustav III sold it to the Seton family, who owned it until 1912. In 2002, the property was acquired by Raija Axell Ohlin. Enköping Municipality (''Enköpings kommun'') is a municipality in Uppsala County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Enköping. Bengt Jönsson (Oxenstierna)
Bengt Jönsson (Oxenstierna), (1390s–1450s) Swedish statesman and noble. Under the Kalmar Union, he served as co-regent of Sweden, from January to June 1448, together with his brother Nils Jönsson (Oxenstierna). Member of the Privy Council of Sweden from 1435, and magistrate of Uppland in 1439. Dubbed as knight by King Christopher of Bavaria following his coronation in 1441, and ''Master'' of the Royal Court from the same year. His farm was Salsta manor (''Salsta slott'') at Lena parish in Norunda, Uppland. He made large donations to Tensta Church (''Tensta kyrka'') and was featured in a fresco made in 1437 by the artist Johannes Rosenrod. He married in 1416 with Kristina Kristiernsdotter (Vasa), widow of Karl Stensson Blad, with whom he had four sons including Jöns Bengtsson Oxenstierna, Archbishop of Uppsala (1448–1467). Simon De La Vallée
Simon de la Vallée (1590–1642) was a French-Swedish architect. The first architect in Sweden to have received formal academic training, he created the Swedish school of architecture. Biography Born in Paris, he was the son of Marin de la Vallée (1576–1655), an architect associated with the Paris Hôtel de Ville and the Luxembourg Palace. After studying under Salomon de Brosse (1571–1626), he spent the next eight years on several study trips, travelling in particular to Italy, Syria, Jerusalem and Persia. Nicodemus Tessin The Elder
Nicodemus Tessin the Elder () (7 December 1615 in Stralsund – 24 May 1681 in Stockholm) was an important Swedish architect. Biography Nicodemus Tessin was born in Stralsund in Pomerania and came to Sweden as a young man. There he met and worked with the architect Simon de la Vallée. He worked for the Swedish Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna before he travelled for further studies to Germany, Italy, France and in the Netherlands, where he got to know the new Baroque style in architecture. Back in Sweden he rebuilt Borgholm Castle, then built Skokloster Castle and the Wrangel Palace in Stockholm. His most important work was Drottningholm Palace, now a world heritage site. Upon his death his son Nicodemus Tessin the Younger continued his projects. Gustav III (29 March 1792), also called ''Gustavus III'', was King of Sweden from 1771 until his assassination in 1792. He was the eldest son of Adolf Frederick of Sweden and Queen Louisa Ulrika of Prussia. Gustav was a vocal opponent of what he saw as the abuse of political privileges seized by the nobility since the death of King Charles XII.
