Okoličná Na Ostrove
Okoličná na Ostrove ( hu, Ekel, Hungarian pronunciation:) is a village and municipality in the Komárno District in the Nitra Region of south-west Slovakia. Geography The village lies at an altitude of 113 metres and covers an area of 29.89 km². It has a population of 1435 people. History In the 9th century, the territory of Okoličná na Ostrove became part of the Kingdom of Hungary. In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1229. After the Austro-Hungarian army disintegrated in November 1918, Czechoslovak troops occupied the area, later acknowledged internationally by the Treaty of Trianon. Between 1938 and 1945 Okoličná na Ostrove once more became part of Miklós Horthy's Hungary through the First Vienna Award. From 1945 until the Velvet Divorce, it was part of Czechoslovakia. Ekel (Norden)
Ekel is the eastern part of the town centre of Norden, Lower Saxony, Norden. Its name goes back to a Low German description for "acorn" (''Eichel'') or "oak grove" (''Eichengehölz''), which gave its name to a medieval fortified house (''Wehrhaus'') about 800 metres northeast of the big market place. Later a private estate and then part of the agriculturally dominated Norden environs, in the 20th century Ekel quickly merged with Norden as a result of new housing estates and was finally incorporated in 1919. Geography Because Ekel was never an independent administrative unit, but was only a placename used in everyday language, it has no defined boundaries. It can be seen that many new estates relate to the name, Ekel, that do not lie on the land once owned by the historical estate (eastern part ''Ekeler Weg'', ''Ekeler Land''). Fendry Ekel (born 1971, Jakarta) is a painter based in Berlin and Yogyakarta. Ekel's works have been displayed Internationally: Netherlands, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Spain, Mexico, Italy, Turkey, Czech Republic, Singapore, South Africa, United Kingdom, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and United States, the United States. Biography Fendry Ekel migrated in the 80's with his family from Indonesia to Europe. He studied in Amsterdam (1992 - 1997) at Gerrit Rietveld Academie and (1998 - 1999) at Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten where he met painters Narcisse Tordoir, Luc Tuymans and Michelangelo Pistoletto as mentors. In 1999 Fendry Ekel was an Artist in Residence at Cittadellarte, Fondazione Pistoletto in Biella, Italy.
