Ekeberghallen, also known as ''Ekeberg idrettshall'', is an indoor sports arena located at Ekebergsletta in the neighborhood of Ekeberg in the Nordstrand, Norway, Nordstrand district of Oslo, Norway. Ekebergsletta is part of the Oslo park system and is used primarily for sporting events. History Ekeberghallen was opened in 1973 and expanded in 1981 when adjacent office localities named ''Osloidrettens Hus'' were opened as well. The court size is 46 × 75 meters, and the audience capacity is 4800. The facility is divided into badminton courts, handball courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts and is fully equipped for athletics. Ekebergsletta
Ekebergsletta is a field in the neighborhood of Ekeberg in the Nordstrand district, southeast of downtown Oslo, Norway. Ekebergsletta is a large grass covered area located on Ekeberg plateau. Originally the area was farmland where crops were cultivated until the 1950s. Shortly after the end of World War II, the idea of an airport for Oslo was entertained for this area. Roald Amundsen had landed his Airship Norge here for a few hours in 1926 on his way to towards the North Pole. The foundation of the mooring mast used by the airship can still be found. The idea of an airport was ultimately rejected in favor of an area for sports and related activities. Today Ekebergsletta is part of Oslo's biggest park system and is used primarily for sporting events. Ekeberg
Ekeberg is a neighborhood in the city of Oslo, Norway. The Norway Cup soccer tournament takes place at Ekebergsletta every summer. "Sletta" means "the plain". The painting "The Scream" by Edvard Munch is painted from Utsikten ("the view"), a part of Ekeberg. In the area are a number of old Iron Age grave mounds and Bronze Age ritual sites. This establish the area of Ekeberg as one of the oldest inhabited places around Oslo. During the Middle Ages, the farm of Ekeberg belonged to Hovedøya Abbey. The area was later taken by the crown. From 1760, the farm of Ekeberg was run by an appointed owner, and his relatives owned the farm thereafter. In the area, a number of small homesteads under the main farm was erected the following century. The first suburban settlement came around 1900, and the early suburb was raised in the years prior to 1935. Many of the early houses are still present in the area. Ekeberg belonged to Oslo from 1947.
