Eishiro Saito
(November 11, 1911 - April 22, 2002) was a Japanese businessman, the former President of Nippon Steel, the 6th Chairman of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) from 1986 to 1991, President of the Japan Science Foundation from 1988, President of the Japan Sports Fund, and President of the Nagano Olympic Organizing Committee. Biography Saito was born in Yasuda-machi, Kitakanbara District, Niigata, present day Agano city. In 1941, Saito joined Nippon Steel. In 1968, he became their Senior Managing Director and in 1973 he became Executive Vice President. In 1981, he became Chairman and CEO of Nippon Steel. In 1987, he retired as chairman, and became Honorary Chairman. Saito died of heart failure at the age of 90. Saito was survived by two children, a daughter and son. Medals Of Honor (Japan)
are medals awarded by the Government of Japan. They are awarded to individuals who have done meritorious deeds and also to those who have achieved excellence in their field of work. The Medals of Honor were established on December 7, 1881, and were first awarded the following year. Several expansions and amendments have been made since then. The medal design for all six types are the same, bearing the stylized characters on a gilt central disc surrounded by a silver ring of cherry blossoms on the obverse; only the colors of the ribbon differ. If for some reason an individual were to receive a second medal of the same ribbon colour, then a second medal is not issued but rather a new bar is added to their current medal. The , the seventh Paralympic Winter Games, were held alongside the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan from 5 to 14 March 1998. They were the first Paralympic Winter Games to be held outside Europe. 571 athletes competed in Nagano; as 2022 it remains the highest number of athletes competing at any Winter Paralympics. 1998 Winter Olympics
The 1998 Winter Olympics, officially known as the and commonly known as Nagano 1998 ( ja, 長野1998), was a winter multi-sport event held from 7 to 22 February 1998, mainly in Nagano, Japan, with some events taking place in the nearby mountain communities of Hakuba, Karuizawa, Nozawa Onsen, and Yamanouchi. The city of Nagano had previously been a candidate to host the 1940 Winter Olympics (which were later cancelled), as well as the 1972 Winter Olympics, but had been eliminated at the national level by Sapporo on both occasions. Nagano was selected to host the 1998 Games on 15 June 1991, beating Salt Lake City, Östersund, Jaca, and Aosta. This was the second Winter Olympics to be held in Japan, and the third Olympic Games overall, after the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo. Jens Gerhard Heiberg (born 20 April 1939, in Oslo) is a Norwegian industrialist who was head of the Lillehammer Olympic Organizing Committee (LOOC) and member of the International Olympic Committee. Education Heiberg received a graduate degree in economics at the School of Economics in Copenhagen in 1963 and one in Human Relations in Business & Industry at the California State University in 1964. Career Heiberg began his career in 1965–1966 as a market analyst at Norsk Hydro. He then became vice president in 1973 and President in 1987. After his work at Norsk Hydro, he held various management positions at Borregaard from 1966 to 1972. In 1972, he was also deputy CEO of Norcem until 1973. He was then CEO of Norcem from 1973 to 1987 and of the merged Aker Norcem from 1987 to 1989.
