Pavlič Pass
The Pavlič Pass, Paulitsch Pass or Paulitsch Saddle ( sl, Pavličevo sedlo, german: Paulitschsattel) or just Pavlič (german: Paulitsch) (elevation 1338 m) is a mountain pass that connects the Slovenian municipality of Solčava in the historical region of Lower Styria with the Austrian state of Carinthia. The Seeberg highway (B 82) runs from the Austrian side through the scenic village of Bad Eisenkappel (Slovene: ) up to the border crossing Seebergsattel. Nine kilometres after Bad Eisenkappel, a road to Paulitschsattel bears left off the B 82. A short descent is followed by a very steep 6 km climb and then 1 km of undulating road to the pass and border crossing. On the Slovenian side, the ascent starts at the beginning of the scenic Logar Valley and is 7 km long. Seeberg Saddle
Seeberg Saddle (german: Seebergsattel, sl, Jezerski vrh), also just Seeberg (''Jezersko'') is a high mountain pass connecting Bad Eisenkappel in the Austrian state of Carinthia with Jezersko in the Slovenian region of Carinthia. It is located in the Southern Limestone Alps, between the Karawanks range in the west and the Kamnik–Savinja Alps in the east. The road across the pass is probably of Roman origin, leading from the Drava valley in the Noricum province towards the city of Aquileia. The border at the summit was implemented after the dissolution of Austria-Hungary by the 1919 Treaty of Saint-Germain. Today the Seeberg Highway (B 82) heads from the Austrian side up to the border crossing on the pass. Directly behind the Slovenian border station is an inn. On the Slovenian side, the state road No. 210 descends from the Seeberg down to Jezersko, offering a panoramic view of the Kamnik Alps. Angela Piskernik
Angela Piskernik (27 August 1886 – 23 December 1967) was an Austro-Yugoslav botanist and conservationist. Biography Piskernik was born in Bad Eisenkappel in Southern Carinthia, which remained with Austria after the First World War, and held a Ph.D. in botany from the University of Vienna. Among her academic teachers was Hans Molisch. She worked for the provincial museum in Ljubljana and taught in various secondary schools. As a nationally conscious Slovene woman, she was active in the Carinthian plebiscite and in a club of migrants. In 1943 she was imprisoned and detained in the Nazi concentration camp Ravensbrück. She is mentioned in the autobiographic novel "Angel of Oblivion" by the Austrian author Maja Haderlap. After 1945 she became director of the Museum of Natural History in Ljubljana and worked in the conservation service. The Prešeren Award ( sl, Prešernova nagrada), also called the Grand Prešeren Award ( sl, Velika Prešernova nagrada), is the highest decoration in the field of artistic and in the past also scientific creation in Slovenia. It is awarded each year by the Prešeren Fund () to two eminent Slovene artists, with the provision that their work was presented to the public at least two years ago. Cvetka Lipuš (born 1966) is an Austrian poet writing in Slovenian language, Slovenian. She was born in Bad Eisenkappel in the Austrian state of Carinthia (state), Carinthia and is the daughter of the Carinthian Slovenes, Carinthian Slovenian author Florjan Lipuš. She attended the high school for Slovenes in Klagenfurt. She studied comparative literature and Slavic studies at the University of Vienna and University of Klagenfurt. She lived in the United States from the early 1990s to 2009 and studied library and information sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She moved to Salzburg, Austria, in 2009. She began writing poems while still in her teens and edited her first collection, ''V lunini senci'' (In the Shadow of the Moon) in 1985. Jezersko, Slovenia
The Municipality of Jezersko (; sl, Občina Jezersko ) is a municipality in northern Slovenia. In 1995, Jezersko became part of Preddvor and became an independent municipality in 1998. Originally located in the historic region of Carinthia, it became part of the Upper Carniola Statistical Region in 2005. The seat of the municipality is the town of Zgornje Jezersko. Jezersko is located in the remote Kokra Valley in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps, south of the Seeberg Saddle mountain pass and the border with the Austrian state of Carinthia. History The name of the area derives from a glacial lake near the settlement of Zgornje Jezersko that started to disappear after an earthquake in 1348. However, it was still described by Johann Weikhard von Valvasor in 1689 as a large lake.
