George Raymond Eisele
USS ''Eisele'' (DE-34) was an short-hull destroyer escort in the service of the United States Navy. ''Eisele'' was launched on 29 June 1943 at Mare Island Navy Yard, Solano County, California, as BDE-34, by Mrs. George A. Eisele, mother of Seaman Second Class Eisele. Intended for the British under the Lend-Lease agreement, she was retained by the U.S. Navy and assigned the name ''Eisele''; and commissioned on 18 October 1943. Namesake George Raymond "Spud" Eisele was born on 15 May 1923 in Gillette, Wyoming. He was a United States Naval Reserve sailor who was killed in action on 12 November 1942 during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. Eisele was manning a gunnery station aboard the heavy cruiser when a Japanese torpedo plane crashed into his location. Eisele was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for "courageously refusing to abandon his gun in the face of an on-rushing Japanese torpedo plane." Carolyn Eisele (June 13, 1902 – January 15, 2000) was an American mathematician and history of mathematics, historian of mathematics known as an expert on the works of Charles Sanders Peirce.... Education and career Eisele was born on June 13, 1902, in The Bronx, New York City. She studied at Hunter College High School and then Hunter College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1923. She earned a master's degree in mathematics and education from Columbia University in 1925. At that time, Columbia did not offer Ph.D.s in mathematics to women, but Eisele continued her graduate studies at the University of Chicago (where she studied differential geometry) and the University of Southern California before returning home to New York, without a doctorate, to care for her injured father. Thomas Eisele, was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas. Education and career Born on November 3, 1923, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Eisele had attended several Republican National Conventions with his grandfather, Martin Eisele. He was a private in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946. In 1947, he procured a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He then obtained both a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws in 1950 and 1951, respectively, from Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. John Eisele
John Eisele (''John Lincoln Eisele;'' January 18, 1884 – March 30, 1933) was an American athlete. He won the silver medal in the 3 mile team race and bronze medal in the 3,200 meters steeplechase at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Eisele was the only runner in his first round heat to finish, moving to the final after running the first round in 11:13.6. He kept pace with the leader, Arthur Russell of Great Britain and Ireland, from about the halfway mark to the bell. Archie Robertson, also of Britain, passed him then. In Irish mythology, Donn ("the dark one", from cel-x-proto, Dhuosnos) is an ancestor of the Gaels and is believed to have been a List of death deities, god of the dead. Donn is said to dwell in Tech Duinn (the "house of Donn" or "house of the dark one"), where the souls of the dead gather. He may have originally been an aspect of the Dagda. Folklore about Donn survived into the modern era in parts of Ireland, in which he is said to be a phantom horseman riding a white horse. Early literary sources A 9th-century poem says that Donn's dying wish was that all his descendants would gather at Donn's house or ''Tech Duinn'' (modern Irish ''Teach Duinn'') after death: "To me, to my house, you shall all come after your deaths".
