Eiken, Agder
Eiken is a village in Hægebostad municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located on the northern shore of the lake Lygne, about north of the municipal centre of Tingvatn. The village sits near the northern end of the Lyngdalen valley, about southeast of the village of Haddeland. There is some industry and agriculture as well as a good amount of tourism. The ''Sørlandets Rehabiliteringssenter Eiken'' (Southern Norway Rehabilitation Centre) is located in Eiken and run by the Southern and Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. The village is also the site of Eiken Church which serves all of northern Hægebostad. From 1916 until 1963, the village was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Eiken. Eiken, Norway
Eiken is a former municipality in the old Vest-Agder county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1916 until its dissolution in 1963. It was located in the northern half of the present-day municipality of Hægebostad in what is now Agder county. The administrative centre was the village of Eiken where Eiken Church is located. The municipality included the far northern end of the Lyngdalen valley from the lake Lygne to the mountains in the north. Eiken Church
Eiken Church ( no, Eiken kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Hægebostad Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located along the lake Lygne in the village of Eiken. It is the church for the Eiken parish which is part of the Lister og Mandal prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a cruciform design in 1817 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 300 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1417, but the church was not built that year. It is not known when the church was originally built, but in a church inspection in 1725, the church was described as "old". In 1818, the old church was torn down and replaced with a new cruciform building on the same site as the previous building.
