Eik Normal School ( no, Eik lærerhøgskole) was a Norwegian school for teacher education. History The school was established in Horten in 1958 as the Vestfold State Normal School (''Statens lærerskoleklasser i Vestfold'') with H. K. Heimdal as its first chancellor. The school was renamed Eik Public Normal School (''Eik offentlige lærerskole'') in 1962 and Eik Normal School (''Eik lærerskole'') in 1967 (modified to ''Eik lærerhøgskole'' in 1981). Horten
is a town and municipality in Vestfold in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway—located along the Oslofjord. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Horten. The municipality also includes the town of Åsgårdstrand and the villages of Borre, Skoppum, and Nykirke. The town of Horten was separated from the municipality of Borre to become a municipality of its own in 1858. The neighboring municipalities of Borre and Horten were merged back together on 1 January 1988. The name of the new united municipality was first ''Borre'', but after a referendum it was changed to ''Horten'' on 1 June 2002. The local newspaper in Horten is named Gjengangeren, and covers mostly local news. It is also available online (see external links section). Vestfold University College ( no, Høgskolen i Vestfold, abbreviated as HiVe) was a university college in the county of Vestfold og Telemark, Norway. The university college's campuses were formerly located in Borre and Eik. From 2010 the whole university college was co-located at Campus Bakkenteigen in Horten. It was established 1 August 1994 by the merger of three previous university colleges ( Eik Normal School, Vestfold College Center, and Vestfold Nursing College), and has approximately 4,000 students and 450 employees. Ruth Lagesen (August 10, 1914 – April 7, 2005) was a Norwegian pianist and conductor. Biography Lagesen was born in Bagn in the Valdres Valdres () is a traditional district in central, southern Norway, situated between the districts of Gudbrandsdalen and Hallingdal. The region of Valdres consists of the six municipalities of Nord-Aurdal, Sør-Aurdal, Øystre Slidre, Vestre Slidre ... district. She started studying in 1933 with Mary Barratt Due, Nils Larsen (pianist), Nils Larsen, and Erling Westher in Oslo, and she debuted as a pianist at the University of Oslo's Aula (Oslo), Aula Hall in 1935 with the Oslo Philharmonic. After further study in Brussels and London, in 1938 she settled in Larvik, working for the Treschow family at Fritzøehus.
