Eider Gardiazabal
Eider Gardiazabal Rubial is a Spanish politician of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since the 2009 elections. Since joining the European Parliament, Gardiazabal Rubial has been serving as a member of the Committee on Budgets. She is also her parliamentary group's coordinator on the committee. In this capacity, she was the parliament's rapporteur on the 2015 budget (along with Monika Hohlmeier) and on the COVID-19 pandemic recovery fund in 2020 (along with Siegfried Mureşan and Dragoș Pîslaru). In 2019, she drafted (together with Petri Sarvamaa) legislation on cutting EU funds to member states that undermine the rule of law. Biscay (Senate Constituency)
Biscay is one of the 59 constituencies ( es, link=no, circunscripciones) represented in the Senate of Spain, the upper chamber of the Spanish parliament, the Cortes Generales. The constituency elects four senators. Its boundaries correspond to those of the Spanish province of Biscay. The Senate ( es, Senado) is the upper house of the Cortes Generales, which along with the Congress of Deputies – the lower chamber – comprises the Parliament of the Kingdom of Spain. Ramón Rubial
Ramón Rubial Cavia (28 October 1906 – 24 May 1999) was a Spanish socialist leader. He was a main leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party in the Basque Country and in Spain. Revolutionary action Born in Erandio, Biscay, Rubial was a metal worker. He joined the Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT) in 1920 and the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) in 1922. In 1934, he was arrested for revolutionary activities during the Asturian miners' strike of 1934, for which he was detained for seven months on a prisoner ship. He was then sentenced to seven years in prison for sedition, but pardoned after the Popular Front victory in the 1936 Spanish general election. During the Spanish Civil War he defended the Second Spanish Republic, becoming a commissar in the XV Bridage. He was captured in February 1937 and imprisoned in Asturias, before being sentenced in 1940 to fourteen years in jail. The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. The ACP–EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly was created to bring together the elected representatives of the European Union (the Members of the European Parliament) and the elected representatives of the African, Caribbean and Pacific states ("ACP countries") that have signed the Cotonou Agreement.
