Ehud (given Name)
Ehud ( he, אֵהוּד) is a Biblical given name, currently common in Israel. The etymology is unknown. The name "Ehud" was not attested as a first name among Jews until the 20th century. Zionism, as part of its nation-building process—encouraged the use of names of Jewish heroes and warriors of ancient times, such as Ehud, and as a result, it has become a common name in contemporary Israel. Two prime ministers of Israel have had it as a first name: Ehud Barak and Ehud Olmert. Israelis named Ehud are often nicknamed "Udi". While the earliest known use is the Hebrew judge, the etymology is unknown. According to Amos Hakham, medieval rabbis favored one of two improbable explanations. Some, like the Vilna Gaon, claimed that the original name was (Eħud), but the letter '' ħet'' had become a '' he'' and thus relates to 'unity' . Others claimed that the name relates to 'glory' . Ehud "Udi" Adiv ( he, אהוד "אודי" אדיב) (born June 21, 1946) is an Israeli political scientist and was a lecturer at the Open University of Israel. In his youth, he was a left-wing anti-Zionist activist who was eventually convicted of treason and membership in a hostile organization and who served over a decade in prison. Biography Ehud "Udi" Adiv was born and raised on Kibbutz Gan Shmuel, one of four children born to Uriel (Uri) and Tova Adiv. Ehud "Udi" Tenenbaum ( he, אהוד "אודי" טננבאום; born August 29, 1979), also known as The Analyzer, is an Israeli hacker. Biography Tenenbaum was born in Hod HaSharon in 1979. He became famous in 1998 when he was arrested for hacking computers belonging to NASA, The Pentagon, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy, the Knesset, MIT, among other high-profile organizations. He also hacked into the computers of Palestinian groups and claimed to have destroyed the website of Hamas. To do this, Tenenbaum installed packet analyzer and trojan horse software on some of the hacked servers. The then-US Deputy Defense Secretary John Hamre stated that the attack was "the most organized and systematic attack to date" on US military systems. Sir Ehud “Udi” Sheleg (; born November 1955) is a British-Israeli businessman, art dealer and political figure. Ehud Netzer
Ehud Netzer ( he, אהוד נצר 13 May 1934 – 28 October 2010) was an Israeli architect, archaeologist and educator, known for his extensive excavations at Herodium, where in 2007 he found the tomb of Herod the Great; and the discovery of a structure defined by Netzer as a synagogue, which if true would be the oldest one ever found (the "Wadi Qelt Synagogue"). Netzer served as a professor at the Institute of Archaeology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He was a world-renowned expert on Herodian architecture. Netzer worked at Masada with Yigael Yadin, and later completed the official excavation report for the site. Ehud Manor (Hebrew: אהוד מנור; born Ehud Weiner; July 13, 1941 – April 12, 2005) was an Israeli lyricist, translator, poet and radio and TV personality. He is widely considered to have been Israel's most prolific lyricist of all time, having written or translated over 1,000 songs. Ehud Banai ( he, אֵהוּד בַּנַּאי; born March 31, 1953) is an Israeli singer and songwriter. Biography Ehud Banai was born in Jerusalem. His father was the actor Yaakov Banai, one of the Banai siblings. The family moved to Givatayim when Banai was four. At the age of ten, he learned to play the cello. Ehud Avriel ( he, אהוד אבריאל; born Georg Überall, 1917 – 27 August 1980) was an Israeli diplomat and politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Mapai between 1955 and 1957. Biography Born in Vienna in Austria-Hungary, Avriel was educated at a local gymnasium. He was a member of the Blue-White movement, and between 1938 and 1940 worked for the Youth Aliyah office in occupied Vienna. He immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1940 and settled in kibbutz Neot Mordechai. He joined the Haganah, and was involved in the Rescue Committee assisting Jews flee Europe.
