Egyptian Olympic Committee
The Egyptian Olympic Committee ( ar, اللجنة الأولمبية المصرية, abbreviated as EOC) is a non-profit organization serving as the National Olympic Committee of Egypt and a part of the International Olympic Committee. History The Egyptian Olympic Committee was founded during the Khedivate of Egypt on June 13, 1910 in Alexandria by Angelo Bolanaki, first Egyptian athlete who participated in international sport competitions outside country. Egypt's first ever Olympic participation came in the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games with one athlete in fencing, Ahmed Hassanein. Egypt was the 14th country to join the IOC. Khedivate Of Egypt
The Khedivate of Egypt ( or , ; ota, خدیویت مصر ') was an autonomous tributary state of the Ottoman Empire, established and ruled by the Muhammad Ali Dynasty following the defeat and expulsion of Napoleon Bonaparte's forces which brought an end to the short-lived French occupation of Lower Egypt. The Khedivate of Egypt had also expanded to control present-day Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, north western Somalia, north Eastern Ethiopia, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Greece, Cyprus, southern and central Turkey, in addition to parts from Libya, Chad, Central African Republic, and Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as northwestern Saudi Arabia, parts of Yemen and the Kingdom of Hejaz. The Egyptian Basketball Federation is the governing body of the sport of basketball in Egypt. It joined International Basketball Federation FIBA in 1934. History It was founded in 1934, and was a member of FIBA Europe, as the FIBA Africa zone was not founded until 1961. Offices The Egyptian Basketball Federation offices are located in Cairo. Men's teams The Egyptian Basketball Federation originally focused on the men's Egyptian national basketball team, with their achievements including 9th place at the 1952 Summer Olympics, as well as its 5th place at the 1950 FIBA World Championship. At the FIBA Africa Championships, Egypt holds a records number of 16 medals. Egypt's men's team participated in the Summer Olympic Games seven times. Nasr City
Nasr City ( ar, مدينة نصر ) is a district of Cairo, Egypt. It is located to the east of the Cairo Governorate and consists mostly of condominia. It was established in the 1960s as an extension to neighboring settlement of Heliopolis. The establishment of the district was part of the Egyptian Government's plan to modernise and expand Cairo following the Egyptian Revolution of 1952. Gamal Abdel Nasser, the Egyptian President at the time, was involved personally in the design process, and was the one who chose the name Nasr for the new district ("''nasr''" being the Arabic word for "victory"). During the early stages of the project it was envisioned that it would constitute a new capital city.
