Egyptian Hip Hop
Egyptian hip hop is a form of hip hop music in Egypt that draws inspiration from both regional and global events. History Hip-Hop music reached Egypt when Andrew A. El-Sayid (OsamaBinRappin), a rapper from West Covina, California took Dr. Dre's "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang" ft. Snoop Dogg cassette single, and DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's "Boom! Shake the Room" red cassette single to Egypt on July 25th 1993. During his visit to Egypt he would play the music for his cousins, and would take the two cassettes on tour throughout his 1 month vacation, to cities such as Alexandria (Agami Beach) and would eventually leave it accidentally with the DJ at 'Disco 54' a club downstairs at the hotel he stayed at in Marsa Matruh. On August 26th, while taking a taxi to Cairo Airport with his father and brother, the country of Egypt heard hip hop for the first time on its radio airwaves. The song played was "Boom! Trap Music
Trap is a subgenre of hip hop music that originated in the Southern United States during the 1990s. The genre gets its name from the Atlanta slang word "trap", a house used exclusively to sell drugs. Trap music uses synthesized drums and is characterized by complex hi-hat patterns, tuned kick drums with a long decay (originally from the Roland TR-808 drum machine), and lyrical content that often focuses on drug use and urban violence. It utilizes very few instruments and focuses almost exclusively on snare drums and double- or triple-timed hi-hats. Pioneers of the genre include producers Kurtis Mantronik, Mannie Fresh, Shawty Redd, Fatboi, Zaytoven, DJ Screw and Toomp, along with rappers Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane and T.I. (who coined the term with his 2003 album ''Trap Muzik''). Music has been an integral part of culture of Egypt, Egyptian culture since antiquity in Egypt. Arabic hip-hop is a segment of hip hop music performed in the Arabic-speaking world. Due to variety of dialects and local genres which exist in the localities, Arabic hip-hop music may appear very diverse depending on the country of the song. African Hip Hop
Hip hop music has been popular in Africa since the early 1980s due to widespread African American influence. In 1985, hip hop reached Senegal, a French-speaking country in West Africa. Some of the first Senegalese rappers were M.C. Lida, M.C. Solaar, and Positive Black Soul. There also have been groups in Tanzania and other countries that emceed before 1989, that knows as Kwanza Unit although it is not very well known. Mahraganat
Mahragan, also Mahraganat ( en, festivals, carnivals; arz, مهرجانات ) or Egyptian Electro, also Egyptian Street Music is a popular genre of Egyptian Folk Music. Mahraganat is a combination of popular Egyptian Shaabi music played at weddings, EDM and Hip-Hop. DJ Figo made the genre more well known with his team "set dyaba" released during the 2011 Egyptian Revolution. Although this may be the first ever track to go mainstream, Mahraganat was conceived early by several Egyptian underground artists as DJ Ahmed Figo, El Sadat, Feelo and Alaa Fifty in 2004. They shared their music via MP3 files and phones, and it could be heard playing everywhere in taxis, tuktuks and on the street, since Egyptian Shaabi music has always been considered as the true soul of Egypt, given how powerful it is. Marwan Pablo ( ar, مروان بابلو; born Marwan Ahmed Motawea ), previously known as Dama, is an Egyptian hip-hop artist from Alexandria. He was influenced by the genre of Mahraganat. He is known for ''Free'', ''Ghaba'', ''El Gemeza'', ''Sindbad'', and ''Barbary''. Career Marwan Pablo started making music in 2015, known as Dama at the time. In late 2017, he released a single, ''Al Gholaf X Ozoris'', under the name of Marwan Pablo in reference to Pablo Escobar and Pablo Picasso as he mentions in a single, ''Free''. Pablo began his career writing lyrics and then produced tracks as well. Marwan Pablo wanted to popularize trap music in his hometown of Alexandria.
