Efforia
Efforia ( ja, エフフォーリア, link=no foaled 10 March 2018) is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse. After winning two minor races as a two-year-old in 2020 he won the Kyodo Tsushin Hai on his first run of 2021 and maintained his unbeaten record by taking the Satsuki Sho on his next start. He was narrowly beaten in the Tokyo Yushun but returned in autumn to win the Tenno Sho and the Arima Kinen. Background Efforia is a bay colt with a white sock on his left hind leg bred in Japan by Northern Farm. He was sent into training with Yuichi Shikato and raced in the green, white and red colours of the Northern Farm affiliate U Carrot Farm. He was ridden in his first four races by Takeshi Yokoyama. Kyodo Tsushin Hai
The Kyodo Tsushin Hai (Tokinominoru Kinen) (Japanese 共同通信杯, ''kyōdō tsūshin hai'') is a Grade 3 horse race for three-year-old Thoroughbreds run in February over a distance of 1800 metres at Tokyo Racecourse. Officially known as the Kyodo Tsushin Hai, the race is named in honour of the undefeated racehorse Tokino Minoru. The race was first run in 1967 and was elevated to Grade 3 status in 1984. It was contested at variety of venues but has been run over its current course and distance since 1980. Winners of the race have included Mr C B, Narita Brian, El Condor Pasa (horse), El Condor Pasa, Jungle Pocket, Admire Moon and Gold Ship. Epiphaneia ( ja, エピファネイア, link=no, foaled 11 February 2010) is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse. In 2012, he was unbeaten in three races including the Grade III Radio Nikkei Hai Nisai Stakes. In the following year, he finished second in both the Satsuki Sho and the Tokyo Yushun before winning the Kobe Shimbun Hai and the Kikuka Sho. He recorded his biggest success in 2014 when winning the Japan Cup. Background Epiphaneia is a bay horse with a white star (horse marking), star bred in Japan by Northern Farm. is a major Japanese horse breeding farm located in Abira, Hokkaido. Tenno Sho
The is a horse race held twice a year in Japan, once in the spring and once in the autumn. "Tenno" means "Emperor of Japan". The races are both International Grade I races. Prior to the 2007 races, both Tenno Sho races were Japanese domestic Grade I races. Spring The Spring Tenno Sho is held at Kyoto Racecourse, in late April or early May. It is run over a distance of , making it the longest Grade I race in Japan. Katies
Katies (22 April 1981 – 20 August 2004) was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. After recording one minor win as a two-year-old she reached her peak in the spring and summer of the following year, taking major prizes in the Irish 1000 Guineas and the Coronation Stakes. At the end of the year she was rated the best three-year-old filly trained in Britain. After the end of her racing career she became a successful broodmare whose foals had great success in Japan. Graded Stakes Race
A graded stakes race is a thoroughbred horse race in the United States that meets the criteria of the American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA). A specific grade level (I, II, III or listed) is then assigned to the race, based on statistical analysis of the quality of the field in previous years, provided the race meets the minimum purse criteria for the grade in question. In Canada, a similar grading system is maintained by the Jockey Club of Canada. Graded stakes races are similar to Group races in Europe but the grading is more dynamic in North America. The grading system was designed in 1973 and first published in 1974. is located in Fuchu, Tokyo, Japan. Built in 1933 for horse racing, it is considered the "racecourse of racecourses" in Japanese horseracing. It has a capacity of 223,000, with seating for 13,750.
