The effects of the 2013 Pacific typhoon season in the Philippines were considered some of the worst in decades. Throughout the year, a series of typhoons impacted the country, with the worst impacts coming from Typhoon Haiyan, especially in death toll, during November. The first half of the season was relatively weak compared to the other intense seasons of 2004 and 2009. The season started off with Auring affecting southern Philippines on January 2. The next week after that, Bising formed consequently south of the country, which later moving off north becoming a bomb cyclone. After a month, Crising developed, tracking like Auring. During the second half of the season, tropical activity within the Western Pacific rose especially on the month of August. The Visayas ( ), or the Visayan Islands (Bisayan languages, Visayan: ''Kabisay-an'', ; tl, Kabisayaan ), are one of the three Island groups of the Philippines, principal geographical divisions of the Philippines, along with Luzon and Mindanao. Typhoon Wipha, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Tino, was a large typhoon that caused extensive damage in Japan in mid-October 2013. The system originated from a tropical depression well to the east of Guam on October 8. Tracking generally westward, development of the depression was initially slow; however, on October 11, favorable atmospheric conditions allowed for rapid intensification. The depression strengthened to a tropical storm that day, receiving the name ''Wipha'' at the time, and reached typhoon status on October 12. Typhoon Wutip (2013)
Typhoon Wutip, known in the Philippines as Tropical Storm Paolo, was a typhoon that formed in the South China Sea from a tropical depression on September 27, 2013. In September 30, the storm made landfall on the provinces from Ha Tinh to Thua Thien Hue province of Vietnam, including Quang Binh is the center of the storm. Wutip killed at least 25 people in southeastern Asia during late September and early October. The name "Wutip" (蝴蝶) proposed by Macau, meaning "butterfly" in Cantonese. Severe Tropical Storm Trami, known in the Philippines as Tropical Storm Maring, was a tropical cyclone that brought heavy rains to Taiwan and East China during mid-August 2013. Trami also made a fujiwhara interaction with Tropical Depression 13W north of it. The storm also enhanced the southwest monsoon causing more than 20 casualties in the Philippines. Severe Tropical Storm Jebi (), known in the Philippines as Tropical Storm Jolina, was a tropical cyclone that caused loss of life and moderate damage across Vietnam and South China in July 2013. At least six people were killed in Vietnam. The most extensive losses took place in Quảng Ninh Province where 320 homes and 200 hectares of crops were damaged. In China, losses were listed at CNY490 million (US$80.3 million). Tropical Storm Cimaron, known in the Philippines as Tropical Storm Isang, was a weak tropical storm, with only a pressure of 1000 hPa and 45 mph. Typhoon Soulik, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Huaning, was a powerful tropical cyclone that caused widespread damage in Taiwan and East China in July 2013. The storm originated from an upper-level cold-core low well to the northeast of Guam on July 6. Gaining tropical characteristics, the system soon developed a surface low and became a tropical depression early on July 7. Severe Tropical Storm Rumbia, known in the Philippines as Tropical Storm Gorio, was a tropical cyclone that brought widespread flooding in areas of the Philippines and China late June and early July 2013. The sixth internationally named storm of the season, Rumbia formed from a broad area of low pressure situated in the southern Philippine Sea on June 27. 2004 Pacific Typhoon Season
The 2004 Pacific typhoon season was an extremely active season that featured the second-highest ACE ever recorded in a single season, second only to 1997, which featured 29 named storms, nineteen typhoons, and six super typhoons. It was an event in the annual cycle of tropical cyclone formation, in which tropical cyclones form in the western Pacific Ocean. The season ran throughout 2004, though most tropical cyclones typically develop between May and October. The season's first named storm and also the first typhoon, Sudal, developed on April 4, later was reached typhoon status two days later, and became the first super typhoon of the year three days later.
