Eelanadu is a Tamil language newspaper. The first issues were produced in 1959, published by K. C. Thangaraja, a businessman from Jaffna, who was the Chairman of the Eastern Paper Mills Corporation in Valaichenai Valaichchenai ( ta, வாழைச்சேனை ''Valaichchenai''; si, වාලසේන / වාලච්චේන ''waalasena / Valaichchena'') is a town in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. Valaichchenai Paper Mill
Valaichchenai Paper Mill is a state-owned paper mill located in the town of Valaichchenai, Batticaloa District, Sri Lanka. It is considered that this mill is the first paper factory established in Sri Lanka. History Valaichchenai paper mill was established in 1955 with a total investment of about 32 million rupees and it was commissioned for commercial operation in 1956. In 1958 it was renamed as Eastern Paper Mills Corporation. At that time this paper mill was considered as the biggest factory in the Eastern province, especially in the Batticaloa district. In the period of 1970s, the mill had around 3,000 employees. In 1976 it became state-owned and then run as a state venture. With the expansion programme, carried out by the funds generated from the Valaichchennai, a second paper mill was established at Embilipitiya in 1976. Valaichchenai ( ta, வாழைச்சேனை ''Valaichchenai''; si, වාලසේන / වාලච්චේන ''waalasena / Valaichchena'') is a town in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. It could also be spelled as Valaichenai or Valachchenai. The world-famous Pasikudah Beach is located about 3 km east of Valaichenai along the Indian Ocean. Pasikudah beach is famous for shallow and calm sea water. Population Valaichchenai has Tamil communities and also Muslims live in Oddamavadi Village. Tamil and Muslim people live east and west of the Valaichenai Main Street, respectively. There were banana, coconut and paddy plantations which provided the main income along with some fishing. Burning Of Jaffna Public Library
The burning of the Jaffna Public Library ( ta, யாழ் பொது நூலகம் எரிப்பு, ''Yāḻ potu nūlakam erippu''; Sinhala language, Sinhala: යාපනය මහජන පුස්තකාලය ගිනිබත් කිරීම, ''Yāpanaya mahajana pustakālaya ginibat kirīma'') took place on the night of June 1, 1981, when an organized mob of Sinhalese people, Sinhalese individuals went on a rampage, burning the Jaffna Public Library, library. It was one of the most violent examples of ethnic Book burning, biblioclasm of the 20th century. At the time of its destruction, the library was one of the biggest in Asia, containing over 97,000 books and manuscripts. The ''Economic and Political Weekly'' (''EPW'') is a weekly peer-reviewed academic journal covering all social sciences, and is published by the Sameeksha Trust. In January 2018, academic Gopal Guru was named the new Editor of the journal. Guru will be Editor for a period of five years. The previous full-time editor was Paranjoy Guha Thakurta. The Trust had earlier appointed Guha Thakurta as the new editor of the journal with effect from 1 April 2016. His appointment came at a time when many social scientists were opposing the supposed removal of the previous editor C.
