Edward Van De Vendel
Edward van de Vendel (born 1 August 1964) is a Dutch writer of children's literature. Early life Van de Vendel was born in 1964 in Leerdam, Netherlands. He worked as a teacher for several years before becoming a full-time writer in 2001. Career Van de Vendel made his poetry debut in 1996 with ''Betrap me''. In 2001, Van de Vendel published ''Wat rijmt er op puree?'', the Kinderboekenweekgeschenk, a publication on the occasion of the annual Boekenweek (Dutch Book Week). In 2004, he won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs together with Fleur van der Weel for the book ''Superguppie''. In 2016, he also won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs together with Martijn van der Linden for the book ''Stem op de okapi''. His books have been illustrated by various illustrators, including Alice Hoogstad, Fleur van der Weel, Martijn van der Linden, Sebastiaan Van Doninck and Sylvia Weve. Woutertje Pieterse Prijs
The Woutertje Pieterse Prijs (Dutch for Woutertje Pieterse Prize) is an annual Dutch literary award for the best children's book of the preceding year. History The award was first given in 1988. The award is awarded annually in March or April. The award is named after the character Woutertje Pieterse in ''Ideeën'' written by Multatuli. The award's name refers to the character's curiosity and tendency to go against society's morals. In a similar way, the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs is awarded to books that differ from children's literature with a didactic or moralistic nature. Some authors have received the award multiple times, including Toon Tellegen (1992, 1994), Joke van Leeuwen (1997, 1999) and Paul Biegel (1991, 2000). In 2018, Annet Schaap with her book ''Lampje'' was the first author to receive this award with a debut novel. The Anna Blaman Prijs (Dutch for ''Anna Blaman Prize'') is a Dutch literary award created by the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. The award is named after Dutch writer and poet Anna Blaman. The award is only given to those who either live or work or have a close connection with the city of Rotterdam. The award is given once every three years. The award was established in 1965 and first awarded in 1966. The Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek (CPNB, "Collective Promotion for the Dutch Book") is a Dutch organization that includes representatives of bookstores and publishers, whose goal is to promote Dutch literature. History and activities The organization has been active since 1930. One of its main activities is organizing the annual Boekenweek (since 1932), a week-long, nationwide promotional event of Dutch books for adults and children. During Boekenweek the buying public is presented with the ''Boekenweekgeschenk'' ("Book Week Gift"), a free book given to purchasers of another Dutch-language book (above a certain value), or to those who become a member of a library. The Gouden Griffel (Golden Stylus) is an award given to authors of children's or teenagers' literature in the Netherlands. History Since 1971, it is awarded each year during the Dutch Children's Books Week, by the Stichting Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek (Dutch Book Promotion Society) for the best children's books written in the past year. Between 1954 and 1970, one book per year was declared the "children's book of the year". Since then, ''griffels'' are awarded in several categories. Only novels written in Dutch are eligible for the ''gouden griffel''. However, the runner-up awards (Silver ''griffels'') can also be given to translated works. Digital Library For Dutch Literature
The Digital Library for Dutch Literature (Dutch: Digitale Bibliotheek voor de Nederlandse Letteren or DBNL) is a website (showing the abbreviation as dbnl) about Dutch language and Dutch literature. It contains thousands of literary texts, secondary literature and additional information, like biographies, portrayals etcetera, and hyperlinks. The DBNL is an initiative by the DBNL foundation that was founded in 1999 by the Society of Dutch Literature (Dutch: Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde). Building of the DNBL was made possible by donations, among others, from the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research (Dutch: Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek or NWO) and the Nederlandse Taalunie. From 2008 to 2012, the editor was René van Stipriaan. The work is done by eight people in Leiden (as of 2013: The Hague), 20 students, and 50 people in the Philippines who scan and type the texts. Sylvia Weve
Sylvia Weve (born 28 May 1954) is a Dutch illustrator. Weve has illustrated over 150 books and she has received numerous awards for her work, including the Gouden Penseel award, the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs and the Max Velthuijs-prijs. Career In 1983, Weve made her debut as children's book illustrator by illustrating the book ''Een noom op school'' written by Corrie Hafkamp. Early in her career, Weve illustrated many books by Rindert Kromhout. Weve went on to illustrate many books by numerous authors including Karel Eykman, Veronica Hazelhoff, Ted van Lieshout, Bies van Ede and Edward van de Vendel. In 2006, she published ''Kip en ei'', a book which she both wrote and illustrated herself. Later in her career she started collaborating with Bette Westera and they both won various awards for their work, including the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs in 2015.
