Edward Vaughan (bishop)
Edward Vaughan (or Wagham) (died 1522) was a Welsh bishop of St David's, remembered for construction work in his diocese. Life He is assumed to have been of Welsh origin, according to some a native of South Wales. He was born about the middle of the fifteenth century, and was educated at Cambridge, where he graduated LL.D. On 21 June 1487 he was instituted to the church of St. Matthew, Friday Street, London, and subsequently became vicar of St Mary's Church, Islington also. At St. Paul's Cathedral he was successively promoted to the prebend of Reculverland, on 15 April 1493, that of Harleston, 16 November 1499, and was made treasurer 10 November 1503, holding along with the latter the prebend of Bromesbury in the same church. He built a house near St. Paul's for his successors in the treasurership, and distributed five hundred marks to the poor in London in time of dearth. Edward Vaughan (of Llwydiarth)
Edward Vaughan (c.1600–1661) was a Welsh politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1626 and 1661. Vaughan was the son of Owen Vaughan of Llwydiarth. He was admitted to the Inner Temple in November 1618. In 1626, he was elected Member of Parliament for Merioneth. In the Civil War, Vaughan was a captain in the Parliamentary army. Edward Vaughan (died 1683)
Edward Vaughan (died 1683) was a Welsh lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1679 to 1681. Life Vaughan was born at Trawsgoed, Cardiganshire, Wales, the eldest son of the chief justice Sir John Vaughan and his wife Jane Stedman of Strata Florida. He became a student of the Inner Temple in November 1653, and was called to the Bar in 1660. He was nominated a Knight of the Royal Oak in 1660. In 1677 he edited his father's reports. He was elected Member of Parliament for Cardiganshire on 26 February 1679 and sat until 28 March 1681. He was one of the Lords of the Admiralty. Vaughan married Letitia Hooker, the daughter of Sir William Hooker. Edward Vaughan (died 5 December 1718), of Glan-y-Llyn, Merionethshire and Llwydiarth, Montgomeryshire, was a Welsh Tory politician who sat in the English and British House of Commons for 43 years from 1675 to 1718. He was briefly Father of the House. Vaughan was the eldest son of Howel Vaughan of Glan-y-Llyn, Merioneth and his wife Elizabeth Jones, daughter of Humphrey Jones of Ddol, Flintshire. He inherited from his wife's uncle Edward Vaughan MP, the estates of Llwydiarth and Llangedwyn, Denbighshire in 1661 and succeeded his father in 1669. He married Mary Purcell, daughter of John Purcell, MP of Nantcribba in 1672. Vaughan was appointed a deputy lieutenant of Montgomeryshire and Merionethshire from 1674 to 1688, for Merionethshire from 1689 to ?1696, and for Montgomeryshire from 1701 to ?death.
