Edward Rappaport
Edward Neil "Ed" Rappaport (born November 18, 1957) served as the acting director of the National Hurricane Center from 2007 to 2008 and again from 2017 to 2018. He replaced former director Bill Proenza on July 9, 2007. Rappaport was replaced by Bill Read in 2008. He began serving as acting director again when Richard Knabb left the NHC in 2017 until Kenneth Graham was selected to succeed him in 2018. Rappaport joined the NHC in 1987, training as a post-doctoral fellow, then worked on an array of assignments as a research meteorologist starting in 1988. He ascended to assistant hurricane specialist and Tropical Satellite and Analysis Center meteorologist in 1990 before becoming a hurricane specialist in 1993. Ken Graham
Kenneth Graham is an American meteorologist who is currently serving as the Director of the National Weather Service. Graham previously served as the Director of the National Hurricane Center from 2018 to 2022. Prior to that, he was the lead meteorologist for the National Weather Service office in New Orleans / Baton Rouge. Early life and education Graham received a Bachelor degree in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arizona, and attended Mississippi State University where he earned a Master's degree in Geosciences. Career Ken Graham began his career as a television meteorologist for CBS and an agricultural meteorologist for Mississippi Network Radio. Max Mayfield
Britt Max Mayfield (born September 19, 1948) is an American meteorologist who served as the director of the National Hurricane Center from 2000 to 2007. As director, Mayfield became a trusted voice in preparing for weather-related disasters, particularly those involving tropical storms and hurricanes. Career Mayfield began his forecasting career with the United States Air Force in 1970, after graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in mathematics, serving as a first lieutenant until 1972. In 1972, Mayfield joined the National Weather Service as a satellite meteorologist. Mayfield earned his master's degree in meteorology at Florida State University in 1987, becoming a hurricane specialist. Richard Knabb
Richard 'Rick' Knabb is an American meteorologist who served as the 11th Director of the National Hurricane Center from June 4, 2012 to May 12, 2017. On March 21, 2017, Knabb announced his return to The Weather Channel as the tropical weather expert which was the position he held from 2010 to 2012. As a result, he left the position of Director of the NHC. Early life and education Knabb was born in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in suburban Fort Lauderdale, Florida and in the Houston, Texas suburb of Katy.
