Edward Osborne Hewett
Major-General Edward Osborne Hewett (25 September 1835 – 3 June 1897) was a British Army officer and member of the Royal Engineers who was the first Commandant of the Royal Military College of Canada. He chose the Royal Military College's motto, "Truth, Duty, Valour". Hewett was born in Hampshire to John Hewett, deputy lieutenant of Glamorgan and Frances Thornewell, daughter of Thomas Thornewell, deputy lieutenant of Staffordshire. He was educated at Cheltenham College and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He was appointed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in the 1883 Birthday Honours. Personal life Hewett married Catherine Mary Biscoe in Toronto in 1864. Southsea
Southsea is a seaside resort and a geographic area of Portsmouth, Portsea Island in England. Southsea is located 1.8 miles (2.8 km) to the south of Portsmouth's inner city-centre. Southsea is not a separate town as all of Portsea Island's settlements (including Southsea) were incorporated into the boundaries of Portsmouth in 1904. Southsea began as a fashionable 19th-century Victorian seaside resort named ''Croxton Town'', after a Mr Croxton who owned the land. As the resort grew, it adopted the name of nearby Southsea Castle, a seafront fort constructed in 1544 to help defend the Solent and approaches to Portsmouth Harbour. Billy Bishop was a leading ace of the First World War, won the Victoria Cross and helped to create the Canadian Flying Corps. William Garnett Braithwaite
Brigadier General William Garnett Braithwaite, (21 October 1870 – 15 October 1937) was a British Army officer who participated in the Boer War and the First World War. Born in England in 1870, he joined the British Army in 1891. He served with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers during the Boer War, during which he received the Distinguished Service Order. After the war he was an instructor at the Royal Military College. In 1911, he went to New Zealand on secondment to help with the training and administration of the New Zealand Military Forces. Following the outbreak of the First World War, he served as a staff officer in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. He commanded the New Zealand Division's 2nd Infantry Brigade for nearly two years on the Western Front and on occasion was acting commander of the division. Easter Rising
The Easter Rising ( ga, Éirí Amach na Cásca), also known as the Easter Rebellion, was an armed insurrection in Ireland during Easter Week in April 1916.
