Edward Nygma (Batman Forever)
Edward Nygma, commonly known as The Riddler, is a fictional character who appears in Joel Schumacher's 1995 superhero film ''Batman Forever''. Based upon the DC Comics character and supervillain of the same name, he was played by Canadian-American actor Jim Carrey. In the film, Nygma, a Wayne Enterprises inventor, creates a device that transmits images into the user's mind and can harness neural energy, which he uses to enhance his intelligence. He teams up with crime boss Two-Face. In his obsession to outsmart Batman (Bruce Wayne), he uncovers Wayne's secret identity, kidnaps Wayne's love interest, and destroys the Batcave. However, his plan fails, leading to severe brain damage and incarceration in Arkham Asylum. Jim Carrey's performance as The Riddler was divisive. Joel Schumacher
Joel T. Schumacher (; August 29, 1939June 22, 2020) was an American film director, producer and screenwriter. Raised in New York City by his mother, Schumacher graduated from Parsons School of Design and originally became a fashion designer. He first entered filmmaking as a production and costume designer before gaining writing credits on ''Car Wash'', ''Sparkle'', and ''The Wiz''. Schumacher received little attention for his first theatrically released films, ''The Incredible Shrinking Woman'' and ''D.C. Cab'', but rose to prominence after directing ''St. Elmo's Fire'', ''The Lost Boys'', and ''The Client''. The Batcave is a subterranean location appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. It is the headquarters of the superhero Batman, whose secret identity is Bruce Wayne and his partners, consisting of caves beneath his personal residence, Wayne Manor. Publication history Originally, there was only a secret tunnel that ran underground between Wayne Manor and a dusty old barn where the Batmobile was kept.
