Edward McGuire (composer)
Edward ("Eddie") McGuire (born 1948) is a Scottish composer whose work ranges from compositions for solo instruments and voice to large-scale orchestral and operatic works. McGuire studied composition with James Iliff at the Royal Academy of Music in London from 1966 to 1970 and then with Ingvar Lidholm in Stockholm in 1971. Early life McGuire was born and brought up in Possilpark in Glasgow. His father played folk violin and was a member of a male voice choir which sang arrangements of Scottish Gaelic and Irish songs at charity concerts. Career As a student at the Royal Academy of Music McGuire won the Hecht Prize (1968) and the National Young Composers Competition (held in Liverpool University in 1969). A competition organised by the Society for the Promotion of New Music to find a modern test piece for the 1978 Carl Flesch International Violin Competition was won by McGuire with a solo violin piece, ''Rant''. Royal Academy Of Music
The Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in London, England, is the oldest conservatoire in the UK, founded in 1822 by John Fane and Nicolas-Charles Bochsa. It received its royal charter in 1830 from King George IV with the support of the first Duke of Wellington. Famous academy alumni include Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Sir Elton John and Annie Lennox. Delphian Records
Delphian Records is an Edinburgh-based independent classical record label, founded in 2000 by two students of the University of Edinburgh, Paul Baxter and Kevin Findlan with start-up funding from two private individuals, and support from the Princes Scottish Youth Business Trust. In 2014, Delphian Records was named Gramophone Magazine's 'Label of the Year'. The label lends a special focus on chamber and instrumental music, and is particularly involved in the recording and promoting of new music. Following a substantial grant from the Scottish Government, the label released its first part-orchestral record in 2008 with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Garry Walker. Red Note Ensemble
Red Note Ensemble is one of the contemporary music ensembles in Scotland, formed by some musicians in the UK. Playing and developing contemporary music, the ensemble performs to audiences around and beyond Scotland. It was partially named for the blue note in jazz, and also refers to the red color that a certain music notation software uses to mark notes that it thinks are out of an instrument's range. Red Note Ensemble Ltd has been directed since its foundation in 2009 by John Harris (Chief Executive and Artistic Co-Director) and cellist Robert Irvine (Artistic Co-Director). In 2011 international violinist Jacqueline Shave was appointed as the Leader of the Ensemble.
