Edward L. Garden
Edward Lorenzio Garden (November 30, 1873 – 1936) was an American politician from Souris, North Dakota who served in both chambers of the North Dakota Legislature, representing the 28th legislative district of North Dakota as a Republican. He served in the North Dakota House of Representatives from 1907 to 1910 and the North Dakota Senate from 1911 to 1914. Early life and education Garden was born in Decorah, Iowa, on November 30, 1873. He received his education at the Decorah Institute. Career In 1899, Garden moved to North Dakota, where he worked as a hardware and furniture merchant, operating stores in Landa, Lansford, and Souris. Prior to serving in the North Dakota Legislature, Garden served as vice president of the North Dakota Hardware Dealers Association and president of the Souris Commercial Club. Decorah, Iowa
Decorah is a city in and the county seat of Winneshiek County, Iowa, United States. The population was 7,587 at the time of the 2020 census. Decorah is located at the intersection of State Highway 9 and U.S. Route 52, and is the largest community in Winneshiek County. History Decorah was the site of a Ho-Chunk village beginning ''circa'' 1840. Several Ho-Chunks had settled along the Upper Iowa River that year when the U.S. Army forced them to remove from Wisconsin. In 1848, the United States removed the Ho-Chunks again to a new reservation in Minnesota, opening their Iowa villages to white settlers. Landa is a city in Bottineau County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 41 at the 2020 census. Landa was founded in 1904. History The extension westward of the railroad in 1903 led to the establishment of Landa along the Great Northern Railway. Originally named Strabane, Norwegian immigrants renamed it after Daniel D. Landa and Theodore T. Landa, early settlers in the area. Landa once had a bank, a hardware store, a lumber yard, a hotel, and other business establishments.
