Edward Kirk Warren
Edward Kirk Warren (April 7, 1847 – January 16, 1919) was an American industrialist and inventor who developed bone (corsetry), featherbone, a popular alternative to whalebone in corsetry. He is the namesake of Warren Dunes State Park and Warren Woods State Park in Michigan, both of which he developed. Biography Warren was born on April 7, 1847, in Ludlow (town), Vermont, Ludlow, Vermont, to Waters and Caroline Warren. Warren was descended eight generations from an early American family; Joseph Warren came to the country from England in 1635. His great-grandfather fought in the American Revolution at the Battle of Bunker Hill. The son of a Congregationalist minister, Edward Kirk Warren was educated in public schools. In 1858, the family moved to Three Oaks, Michigan. Upon reaching adulthood, Warren took a job working in a sawmill. Edward Kirk Warren House And Garage
The Edward Kirk Warren House and Garage is a historic house located at 2829-2831 Sheridan Place in Evanston, Illinois. The house was built in 1910-12 for Edward Kirk Warren, an industrialist who developed the featherbone corset. Warren also served as president of the International Sunday School Association and provided financial support to evangelist Dwight L. Moody. Architect William Carbys Zimmerman, the Illinois State Architect at the time, designed the Tudor Revival house. The house was built from dressed ashlar, an uncommon building material for Tudor Revival houses; it is one of only two ashlar Tudor Revival houses in Evanston. The house's roof has a steep main gable with a parapet along with several smaller gables and dormers with a similar design. Warren Featherbone Company Office Building
The Warren Featherbone Company Office Building is an office building located at 3 North Elm Street in Three Oaks, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It now houses the Three Oaks Public Library. History Edward K. Warren arrived in Three Oaks in 1858 and opened a dry goods store. As a dry goods proprietor, he was familiar with complaints about the fragility of the then-common whalebone stays used in women's dresses. He also frequented the Chicago Feather Duster Company to purchase goods. It was there that he found out that the company disposed of turkey wing feathers as being too stiff to use in a feather duster. Warren eventually realized that stiff feather quills might make a suitable replacement for whalebone stays, and after some experimentation perfected a product which he christened the "featherbone." Moody Bible Institute (MBI) is a private evangelical Christian Bible college founded in the Near North Side of Chicago, Illinois, US by evangelist and businessman Dwight Lyman Moody in 1886.
