Edward Hoare (politician)
Edward Hoare (died 20 July 1765) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Hoare was the son of Edward Hoare, who had himself served as Mayor and Sheriff of Cork, and Sarah Burnell.John Burke, ''A General and Heraldic Dictionary of the Peerage and Baronetage of the British Empire'', Volume 1 (H. Colburn and R. Bentley, 1832), p. 615. His father was a wealthy merchant who with his brother founded Hoare's Bank. He held the office of Sheriff of Cork City in 1707–08 and in 1710 served as Lord Mayor of Cork. Between 1710 and 1727 he sat in the Irish House of Commons as the Member of Parliament for Cork City. He married, firstly, Grace Burton, daughter of Benjamin Burton and Grace Stratford, in 1703. Together they had three children. He married, secondly, Anne Grant, daughter of Thomas Grant, on 27 August 1715, and they had one son. Anglo-Irish
Anglo-Irish people () denotes an ethnic, social and religious grouping who are mostly the descendants and successors of the English Protestant Ascendancy in Ireland. They mostly belong to the Anglican Church of Ireland, which was the established church of Ireland until 1871, or to a lesser extent one of the English dissenting churches, such as the Methodist church, though some were Roman Catholics. They often defined themselves as simply "British", and less frequently "Anglo-Irish", "Irish" or "English". Edward Webber (politician)
LokiTorrent was a BitTorrent indexing service operated by Edward Webber (''"Lowkee"'') from 2004 until 2005. The domain name was originally registered on 24 February 2004. In the beginning, LokiTorrent had been one of the least trafficked torrent sites, with operations like Suprnova.org leading the pack at the time. However, LokiTorrent gained international attention when it refused to comply with cease and desist orders sent out on 14 December 2004 by the MPAA. These same orders had caused dozens of other much larger sites, including SuprNova, to disappear overnight. Webber began a drive to raise money to fight the MPAA in court, and over a couple of months, had accrued in excess of $40,000 in sheer member donations. The site peaked at 680,000 active registered members, and dealt with 1.8 million hits per day. Sheriff Of Cork City
The sheriff ( ga, sirriam) of the City of Cork is the court officer responsible for the enforcement of civil judgments in Cork county borough. The current sheriff is a solicitor, Martin A Harvey. Sheriffs earn their fees from poundage (commission). Before 1842 two sheriffs (and the Mayor) were voted into office annually by the freemen of the city. After that time, the power of appointment of a single sheriff per year was vested in the crown. The sheriff also performs the duties of the returning officer in elections (other than local elections) and some other duties concerning pounds. Sheriffs may appoint court messengers, subject to the approval of the Minister for Justice, to assist them with their work. St John Brodrick (died 1728)
The Honourable St John Brodrick (c. 1685 – 21 February 1728), was an Anglo-Irish politician who sat in the Irish House of Commons from 1709 to 1728 and in the British House of Commons from 1721 to 1727. Brodrick was a son of Alan Brodrick, 1st Viscount Midleton and brother of Alan Brodrick, 2nd Viscount Midleton; his mother was his father's first wife, Catherine Barry, daughter of Redmond Barry of Rathcormac. He predeceased his father by some months. Broderick represented Castlemartyr in the Irish House of Commons from 1709 to 1713, the City of Cork from 1713 to 1715 and then the County of Cork from 1715 to his death. On 9 June 1724, he was appointed to the Irish Privy Council. He was also returned as Member of Parliament for Bere Alston on petition on 6 June 1721 after a by-election and returned unopposed at the 1722 general election.
