Edward Grimston (Ipswich MP)
Edward Grimston (ca. 1508–1600), of Rishangles, Suffolk, was an English politician and comptroller of Calais. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Ipswich in 1563, 1571 and 1572, Eye in 1589 and Orford in 1593. Early life He was the son of Edward Grimston, by his wife Anne, daughter of John Garnish (Garneys) of Kenton, Suffolk. His grandfather was Edward Grimston (d. 19 March 1494), a son of the diplomat Edward Grimston (d. 1478), subject of the well-known portrait of 1446 by Petrus Christus (on long-term loan to the National Gallery from his descendant the Earl of Verulam), and his second wife Mary Drury. For a while he studied at Gonville Hall, Cambridge, but did not graduate. He was a commissioner in 1552 for the sale of church goods in Ipswich. Rishangles
Rishangles is a village and civil parish in the Mid Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. The place-name 'Rishangles' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as ''Risangra''. The name means 'brushwood slope', the second element being related to the word 'hanger' meaning 'hanging wood'. The manor of Rishangles was held until his death in September 1478 by Edward Grimston, who also held the manor of Thorndon. They passed to his son Edward (1462-1520). Tower Of London
The Tower of London, officially His Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London, is a historic castle on the north bank of the River Thames in central London. It lies within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, which is separated from the eastern edge of the square mile of the City of London by the open space known as Tower Hill. It was founded towards the end of 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest. A prisoner (also known as an inmate or detainee) is a person who is deprived of liberty against their will. This can be by confinement, captivity, or forcible restraint. The term applies particularly to serving a prison sentence in a prison. English law "Prisoner" is a legal term for a person who is imprisoned. In section 1 of the Prison Security Act 1992, the word "prisoner" means any person for the time being in a prison as a result of any requirement imposed by a court or otherwise that he be detained in legal custody. "Prisoner" was a legal term for a person prosecuted for felony. It was not applicable to a person prosecuted for misdemeanour. Sir Harbottle Grimston, 1st Baronet
Sir Harbottle Grimston, 1st Baronet (''c.'' 1569–1648) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons variously between 1614 and 1648. He supported the Parliamentarian side in the English Civil War. Grimston was the grandson of Edward Grimston, MP for Eye, and his wife Joan Risby. He was created Baronet of Bradfield in the County of Essex in the Baronetage of England on 25 November 1611. In 1614 he was High Sheriff of Essex. He was elected Member of Parliament for Harwich in 1614. In 1626 Grimston was elected knight of the shire (MP) for Essex. He was re-elected in 1628 and held the seat to 1629 when King Charles decided to rule without parliament for eleven years. In April 1640 he was re-elected MP for Essex in the Short Parliament. In November 1640 he was elected MP for Harwich in the Long Parliament. He held the seat until his death in 1648. Grimston married Elizabeth Coppenger, daughter of Ralph Coppenger of Stoke in Kent.
