Edward Gordon (politician)
Edward Brice Killen Gordon (4 November 1885 – 6 September 1964) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party. Biography Gordon was born in Marton in 1885. He received his education at Marton District High School and at Prince Albert College in Auckland's Queen Street. He worked on a farm near Taihape, and then in the bush north of Wanganui. In 1917, he married Mary Alexandra Grant before enlisting for World War I; at the time, they were living in Palmerston North. After the war, he purchased a farm near Mangaweka, but moved back to Marton to take over a farm there. He was involved with various farming organisations and chaired the Marton branch of the Farmers' Union, was vice-president of the Marton A&P Association, and a member of the Rangitikei Rabbit Board. Norman Shelton
Norman Leslie Shelton, (28 June 1905 – 14 July 1980) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party. Biography Early life and career Shelton was born on 27 June 1905 in Taihape and was subsequently educated at Fielding Technical School. He then entered the employment of Hodder and Tolley Ltd in 1920 as a salesman. In 1934 he was appointed manager of the company's Marton branch which he held until 1954 when he resigned. In 1935 he married Dorothy Mamie Stevens. He was interested in music and sung baritone. He was actively involved with the Marton Players and Marton Music Society. During World War II he was an artillery gunner and posted to the Pacific, Egypt and Italy from 1943 to 1944.
