Edward Aloysius Fitzgerald
Edward Aloysius Fitzgerald (February 13, 1893 – March 30, 1972) was an American bishop of the Catholic Church. He served as an auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Dubuque from 1946 to 1949, and as the fourth Bishop of Winona from 1949 to 1969. Biography Early life and ministry Edward Fitzgerald was born in Cresco, Iowa, to Edward and Emma (née Daly) Fitzgerald. He was educated at Assumption High School in Cresco before he graduated from St. Joseph College in Dubuque in 1913. Fitgerald studied for the priesthood at the Grand Seminary of Montreal in Canada where he earned Bachelor of Sacred Theology and a Bachelor of Canon Law. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Dubuque by Archbishop James Keane on July 25, 1916. He took post-graduate studies at the University of Chicago and the University of Minnesota. Edward Fitzgerald (priest)
Edward J. Fitzgerald (17 August 1883 – 25 November 1968) was an Irish Roman Catholic priest. Career Fitzgerald was educated at Christian Brothers College, Cork and was ordained at St Patrick's College, Maynooth in 1909. After ministering for a few years on the Glasgow City Missions, he was appointed chaplain to Bantry Convent. In 1913, Fitzgerald was appointed chaplain to Cork City Gaol and later taught at St Finbarr's College, Farranferris for a period of eight years. After a two-year curacy on Spike Island, Fitzgerald was appointed curate to the South Parish. In December 1943, he was appointed administrator of the parish and two years later became a canon of the Cathedral chapter. Three years later Fitzgerald became parish priest of Dunmanway and remained there until May 1955 when he was appointed as the first parish priest of the new parish of Ballinlough. Edward Mary Fitzgerald (October 28, 1833—February 21, 1907) was an Irish-born American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as bishop of the Diocese of Little Rock in Arkansas from 1867 until his death in 1907. Biography Early life Edward Fitzgerald was born in Limerick to James and Joanna (née Pratt) Fitzgerald. He was one of eight children one of whom, Joseph, also became a priest. In 1849 he and his parents immigrated to the United States in the aftermath of the Great Famine of Ireland. He attended St. Mary's of the Barrens Seminary at Perryville, Missouri from 1850 to 1852. Fitzgerald completed his theological studies at Mount St. Mary's Seminary of the West in Cincinnati, Ohio and at Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Edward Fitzgerald (brewer)
Edward Fitzgerald ( 1824 – 19 March 1890) was an Australian brewer and solicitor. He was the founder of the Castlemaine Brewery, which went on to have significant operations in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Fitzgerald was born in Ireland, the son of a brewer, was educated at Trinity College, Dublin and became a solicitor in Ireland. He migrated to Victoria as a result of the Victorian gold rush, had an unsuccessful stint as a miner at Moonlight Flat, near Castlemaine, and then practised as a solicitor in Castlemaine. While practicing as a solicitor there, he established the Castlemaine Brewery in 1857. His brother, Nicholas Fitzgerald, followed him to Victoria and joined him in the business in 1859. Edward FitzGerald or Fitzgerald (31 March 180914 June 1883) was an English poet and writer. His most famous poem is the first and best-known English translation of ''The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam'', which has kept its reputation and popularity since the 1860s. Life Edward FitzGerald was born Edward Purcell at Bredfield House in Bredfield, some two miles north of Woodbridge, Suffolk, England, in 1809. In 1818, his father, John Purcell, assumed the name and arms of his wife's family, the FitzGeralds. His elder brother John used the surname Purcell-Fitzgerald from 1858. The change of family name occurred shortly after FitzGerald's mother inherited a second fortune. She had previously inherited over half a million pounds from an aunt, but in 1818, her father died and left her considerably more than that.
