Edward Dunn (politician)
Edward Dunn (21 December 1880 – 8 April 1945) was a British Labour Party politician. Born in Dudley, Dunn grew up in Kiveton Park near Rotherham. He followed his father in becoming a coal miner, and he joined the Yorkshire Miners' Association. He was elected to Maltby Parish Council, becoming its chair in 1924, continuing as chair of its successor, the Maltby Urban District Council, until his death. In 1919, he was elected to the West Riding County Council, becoming an alderman in 1922, and leader of the Labour group on the council from 1933 until 1936. At the 1935 general election, Dunn was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Rother Valley. He served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Arthur Henderson for a few months in 1942. From 1941, he was also the deputy regional commissioner for the North Eastern Civil Defence Region. Edward John Dunn
Edward John Dunn (1 November 1844 – 20 April 1937) was an English-born Australian geologist, winner of the 1905 Murchison Medal. Early life Dunn was born at Bedminster near Bristol, England, the son of Edward Herbert Dunn and Betsy Robinson Dunn. The family emigrated to New South Wales in 1849, initially living near Goulburn, New South Wales then in Beechworth, Victoria from 1856. Dunn was educated at the Beechworth Church of England school and later by a tutor. Dunn was a collector of rocks and minerals from boyhood. Geological career Dunn entered the Beechworth land survey office and had experience in surveying. In 1864 he joined the geological survey under Alfred Richard Cecil Selwyn and was trained in geological work by Georg Heinrich Friedrich Ulrich. He remained with the survey until it was abolished in 1869; in that year he became qualified as a mining surveyor. Edward Arthur Dunn (8 August 1868 – 11 January 1955) was an eminent Anglican bishop in the mid-20th century. Biography Born into an ecclesiastical family – his father was Andrew Hunter Dunn, at sometime the Bishop of Quebec. On 8 August, 1868, he was educated at the Marlborough and Pembroke College, Cambridge. Edward Wilkes Dunn (born June 19, 1980) is an American lawyer and former actor known for his portrayal of Duncan Kane in the Rob Thomas television series ''Veronica Mars''. Early life and education Dunn grew up in Durham, North Carolina. He attended Phillips Academy, a preparatory high school in Andover, Massachusetts, and graduated in 1999. At Phillips Academy, Dunn became involved in theatre, playing the role of Jerry in Edward Albee's ''The Zoo Story'' and the lead character of Alceste in Molière's ''The Misanthrope'', directed by Kevin Heelan. Dunn Brothers Coffee is a franchise company of coffeehouses founded in St. Paul, Minnesota, in December 1987 by brothers Ed and Dan Dunn. As of December 2023, Dunn Brothers Coffee has 52 locations in Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin. History The first store opened in 1987 at 1569 Grand Avenue in St. Paul, after the Dunn brothers had driven an old Dodge van loaded with their belongings from Portland, Oregon, to Minnesota in search of a good, underserved location for a coffee business. They found a refurbished 1950s Probat roaster in Cincinnati, Ohio, and used it to set up that first store. The second location opened in Uptown Minneapolis in 1991 (and was temporarily the only location while the Grand Avenue store was rebuilt following a 1991 fire).
