Edward Cleary (Australian Politician)
Edward Francis Cleary (c. 1878 – 24 August 1936) was an Australian politician. He was born in Nooramunga to farmer Michael Cleary and Mary Moroney. He attended state schools and became a farmer at Goorambat. On 16 September 1907 he married Catherine Pelly, with whom he had nine children. He served on Benalla Shire Council from 1910 to 1936, and was president from 1913 to 1914. In 1927 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Benalla, representing the Country Progressive Party. In 1930 the Country Progressives reunited within the Country Party, and in 1935 Cleary became government whip. He died in East Melbourne in 1936. First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Frederick Cook (Australian Politician)
Frederick Albert Cook, known by his second name Albert, (22 March 1883 – 23 December 1971) was an Australian politician. He was born at Baddaginnie to storekeeper Frederick John Cook and Maria Dosser. After a state education he carried on his father's stores in Baddaginnie and Benalla. On 26 December 1915 he married Neva Garland Mowatt, with whom he had five children; a second marriage on 20 April 1943 to Kathleen Flora Curry produced two further children. He served on Benalla Shire Council from 1924 to 1964 and was twice president (1931–32, 1953–54). In 1936 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Benalla as a United Australia Party-aligned independent. John Carlisle (Australian Politician)
John Joseph Carlisle (c. 1863 – 18 June 1929) was an Australian politician. He was born in Mansfield to farmer William Carlisle and Anna Crockett. Following his father's death in 1871 the family moved to Yarrawonga, and Carlisle grew up to become a farmer in the area. He served on Yarrawonga Shire Council from 1895 to 1907 and was president from 1900 to 1901. In 1903 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Benalla and Yarrawonga, transferring to Benalla at the election the following year. A Liberal who joined the Economy faction of the Nationalist Party in 1917, he was a minister without portfolio from November 1917 to March 1918. In 1920 he joined the Victorian Farmers' Union, which became the Country Party. In 1926 he left the party after a dispute over a proposed redistribution, and stood at the 1927 election as an independent but was defeated. Victoria Cricket Team
The Victoria men’s cricket team is an Australian first-class men's cricket team based in Melbourne, Victoria. The men’s team, which first played in 1851, represents the state of Victoria in the Marsh Sheffield Shield first-class competition and the Marsh One Day Cup 50-over competition. It was known as the Victorian Bushrangers between 1995 and 2018, before dropping the Bushrangers nickname and electing to be known as simply Victoria in all cricket competitions. Victoria shares home matches between the Melbourne Cricket Ground in East Melbourne and the Junction Oval in St Kilda.
