Edward Byers
Edward C. Byers Jr. (born August 4, 1979) is a retired United States Navy SEAL who received the Medal of Honor on February 29, 2016, for the rescue of a civilian in Afghanistan in 2012. Byers retired after 21 years of service on September 19, 2019, at the Washington Navy Yard. Early life and education Born in Toledo, Ohio, growing up in Grand Rapids, Ohio, Grand Rapids, Byers graduated from Otsego High School in Tontogany, Ohio in 1997. Otsego High School
Otsego High School is a high school in the village of Tontogany, Ohio, United States. Students are from the general region of Weston, Grand Rapids, Middleton and Washington Townships and the Villages of Weston, Grand Rapids, Tontogany and Haskins. Though the student body is quite small, there are many open enrollment students. 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit
The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (26th MEU) is one of seven such units currently in existence in the United States Marine Corps. It is an air-ground task force with a strength of about 2,400 personnel when at full strength during a deployment. It consists of four major parts: a command element, a ground combat element, an aviation combat element, and a logistics combat element. Since its establishment in the early 1970s as the 26th Marine Amphibious Unit, it has deployed extensively, and participated in numerous combat and contingency operations, as well as training exercises. 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines (2/2) is a light infantry battalion in the United States Marine Corps based out of Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Also known as "The Warlords", it consists of approximately 1,300 Marines and sailors and normally falls under the command of the 2nd Marine Regiment and the 2nd Marine Division.
