Edward Ernest Bowen (30 March 1836 – 8 April 1901) was an influential schoolmaster at Harrow School from 1859 until his death, and the author of the Harrow school song, " Forty Years On". Biography Edward Bowen was born in Glenmore, County Wicklow, Ireland; his elder brother was Charles Bowen, a well-known judge. He was educated at Blackheath Proprietary School and King's College, London before entering Trinity College, Cambridge. He was appointed an assistant master at Marlborough College in 1858, and moved to Harrow in 1859.'Obituary: Mr. E. E. Edward George Bowen
Edward George "Taffy" Bowen, CBE, FRS (14 January 1911 – 12 August 1991) was a Welsh physicist who made a major contribution to the development of radar. He was also an early radio astronomer, playing a key role in the establishment of radioastronomy in Australia and the United States. Early years Edward George Bowen was born at Cockett in Swansea, south Wales, to George Bowen and Ellen Ann (née Owen). George Bowen was a steelworker in a Swansea tinplate works. From an early age Bowen developed a strong interest in radio and cricket. He entered Swansea University and read physics and related subjects. He graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in 1930, and continued with postgraduate research on X-rays and the structure of alloys, earning an MSc in 1931. He completed his doctorate under Professor E.V. Appleton at King's College London. Edward Bowen (20 March 1828, near Newtowncunningham in the Parish of Taughboyne – 28 July 1897, in London) was an Anglican priest in Ireland during the nineteenth century. Bowen was educated at University College, Oxford. He was ordained deacon in 1881 and priest in 1852. After a curacy at Taughboyne he held incumbencies at Baronscourt and Taughboyne. The Bowen Baronetcy, of Colworth in the County of Bedford, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 10 January 1921 for Albert Bowen. He was President of the Buenos Aires Great South Railway Company and a justice of the peace and high sheriff for Bedfordshire Bedfordshire (; abbreviated Beds) is a ceremonial county in the East of England.
