Edward Barrie Wiggham
Edward Barrie Wiggham, (born 1937) is a former British senior civil servant in the Hong Kong government. He was the Secretary for the Civil Service from 1990 to 1993. Biography Wiggham was born in 1937 and was graduated from the Oxford University in Modern Languages in 1961. From 1956 to 1958, he served in the military in Cyprus. He moved to Hong Kong in 1961 to learn Chinese. Besides that he spoke also French and German. He joined the Hong Kong government and worked in the Urban Services Department and New Territories Administration before he was Deputy Director of Commerce in 1970. He subsequently served as Principal Assistant Financial Secretary, Deputy Secretary for the New Territories. In the late 1970s, Wiggham was the head of the Home Affairs Information Branch in charge of overt propaganda for the colony. Hong Kong Government
The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, commonly known as the Hong Kong Government or HKSAR Government, refers to the executive authorities of Hong Kong SAR. It was formed on 1 July 1997 in accordance with the Sino-British Joint Declaration of 1983, an international treaty lodged at the United Nations. This government replaced the former British Hong Kong Government (1842–1997). The Chief Executive and the principal officials, nominated by the chief executive, are appointed by the State Council of the People's Republic of China. Pro-democracy Camp
The pro-democracy camp, also known as the pan-democracy camp, is a political alignment in Hong Kong that supports increased democracy, namely the universal suffrage of the Chief Executive and the Legislative Council as given by the Basic Law under the "One Country, Two Systems" framework. The pro-democrats generally embrace liberal values such as rule of law, human rights, civil liberties and social justice, though their economic positions vary. They are often referred to as the "opposition camp" as they have consistently been the minority camp within the Legislative Council, and because of their non-cooperative and sometimes confrontational stance towards the Hong Kong and Chinese central governments. Harnam Singh Grewal (高禮和) CBE ED (born December 5, 1937 in Hong Kong) is a former Hong Kong hockey player and career civil servant. He grew up and lived most of his life in Hong Kong. Upon completion of his University education, he returned to serve in the Government of Hong Kong. The last post he held was Secretary for the Civil Service. He retired to Canada in the 1990s. Heritage Grewal's family originates from Punjab, India. Early days Grewal was born in Hong Kong, but spent most of his childhood in his ancestral village of Ballowal in Ludhiana District, Punjab. He attended primary school in the village, and when the family returned to Hong Kong in 1947, continued his schooling at Sir Ellis Kadoorie School and then King's College.
