Edward Alleyn
Edward "Ned" Alleyn (; 1 September 156621 November 1626) was an English actor who was a major figure of the Elizabethan theatre and founder of the College of God's Gift in Dulwich. Early life Alleyn was born on 1 September 1566 in Bishopsgate, London; or so it was recorded in the ''Biographia Britannica'' as a product of Alleyn's own writing. Alleyn does record his birth date in a diary several times but not distinctly identifies his birthplace as Bishopsgate. In the St. Botolph parish registers it is recorded that he was baptized on the day after his birth. He was born a younger son of Edward Alleyn with three brothers named John, William, and Edward. His father was an innkeeper and porter to Queen Elizabeth I and his mother, Margaret Townley, was the daughter of John Townley. His mother's link to the Lancashire Townley family is somewhat of a mystery. Edward G. Allen (December 4, 1859 – April 16, 1917) was an American sailor serving in the United States Navy during Boxer Rebellion who received the Medal of Honor for bravery. Biography Allen was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and after entering the navy Allen was sent to China to fight in the Boxer Rebellion. Joseph Edmund Allen (June 5, 1901 – August 1979) was an American football end who played one season in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago Cardinals. He played college football for Creighton University. Allen was born on June 5, 1901, in Dixon, Illinois Dixon is a city and the county seat of Lee County, Illinois, United States. The population was 15,733 as of the 2010 census, down from 15,941 in 2000. The city is named after founder John Dixon, who operated a rope ferry service across the R .... Edward Bostwic Allen Jr. (May 5, 1918 – March 1, 2012) was an American football fullback who played one season in the National Football League (NFL) with the Chicago Bears and one season in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC) for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Allen played college football at the University of Pennsylvania, and was head football coach at Drexel University Early life and college career Allen attended Batavia High School in Batavia, New York, where he was raised. Allen played for three seasons on the Penn Quakers football team until 1940, when he left to serve in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. Edward Jay Allen (April 27, 1830 – December 26, 1915) was a pioneer, entrepreneur, and businessman. Edward Jay Allen traveled west over the Oregon Trail in 1852 and made his way to Puget Sound, arriving in December of that year. Allen played a significant role in the early history of Washington Territory and left a detailed account of his years in the west (1852–1855). Upon returning to Pittsburgh, he married, raised a family, served with distinction in the Civil War as a colonel in the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry, and in later life became quite prosperous as secretary/treasurer of the Atlantic and Pacific Telegraph Company. He was a member of the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club that gained notoriety in the aftermath of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania flood.
