Edward is an English given name. It is derived from the Anglo-Saxon name ''Ēadweard'', composed of the elements '' ēad'' "wealth, fortune; prosperous" and '' weard'' "guardian, protector”. History The name Edward was very popular in Anglo-Saxon England, but the rule of the Norman and Plantagenet dynasties had effectively ended its use amongst the upper classes. Karl ''Edvard'' Johanson (1882 in Förlösa – 1936) was a Swedish trade union organizer. By profession he was a shoemaker, and belonged to the Swedish Shoe and Leather Workers' Union. He was the chairman of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation from 1930, when he succeeded Albert Forslund, to 1936, when he was succeeded by Arvid Thorberg Arvid Thorberg (born 1877, Kärrbo, d. 1930) was a Swedish trade union organizer.
