Edvard Linna
Edvard Ferdinand Linna (26 August 1886 – 30 December 1974) was a Finnish gymnast who won bronze in the 1908 Summer Olympics. Sport Gymnastics He was also selected to Finland's 1912 Olympic gymnastics team, but dropped out due to an injury. He won the Finnish national championship in team gymnastics as a member of Ylioppilasvoimistelijat in 1909. Gymnastics events have been contested at every Summer Olympic Games since the birth of the modern Olympic movement at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. For 32 years, only men were allowed to compete. Beginning at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, women were allowed to compete in artistic gymnastics events as well. The Fennoman movement or Fennomania was a Finnish nationalist movement in the 19th-century Grand Duchy of Finland, built on the work of the ''fennophile'' interests of the 18th and early-19th centuries. History After the Crimean War, Fennomans founded the Finnish Party and intensified the language strife, yearning to raise the Finnish language and Finnic culture from peasant status to the position of a national language and a national culture. The opposition, the Svecomans, tried to defend the status of Swedish and the ties to the Germanic world.
