Education Through Music-Los Angeles
Education Through Music - Los Angeles is an independent 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2006 in Los Angeles in the United States. The group aims to provide and promote music education into the curricula of schools of low-income students in the Los Angeles and surrounding areas, in order to enhance students' academic performance and creative and general development. The group works with inner-city elementary schools that are not able to develop or sustain school-wide music programs. ETM-LA provides under-served Los Angeles youth with weekly, yearlong music classes at no cost to the school. The goal is to combine music with all other academic subjects in order to reinforce learning and development in all areas, as well as encourage the school to embrace music as a core subject by involving all members of the school community. Nicola Joy Nadia Benedetti (born 20 July 1987) is an Italian-British classical solo violinist and festival director. Patrice Louise Rushen (born September 30, 1954) is an American jazz pianist and R&B singer. She is also a composer, record producer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and music director. Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, or simply The Big Phat Band, is an 18-piece jazz orchestra that combines the big band swing of the 1930s and 1940s with contemporary music such as funk and jazz fusion. The band is led by Gordon Goodwin, who arranges, composes, plays piano and saxophone. Since its origin, the Big Phat Band has received several Grammy Awards and many Grammy nominations. Its first album, ''Swingin' for the Fences'', was the first recording released on DVD-Audio and the first DVD-Audio to be nominated for two Grammy Awards.
