Superior Collegiate And Vocational Institute
Superior Collegiate and Vocational Institute (SCVI) is a high school in Thunder Bay, Ontario and is part of the Lakehead District School Board system. The school opened in September, 2009. It has approximately 600 students. It is also currently, as of September 2019, the only school in the Lakehead District School Board that offers the International Baccalaureate program, introduced in September 2018 after the shut down of Sir Winston Churchill Collegiate & Vocational Institute. History Superior Collegiate and Vocational Institute replaced Port Arthur Collegiate Institute and Hillcrest High School. Port Arthur Collegiate opened in 1909 and closed in 2007. Kumon Institute Education Co. Ltd. is an educational network based in Japan, created by Toru Kumon which uses his Kumon Method to teach mathematics and reading primarily for young students. The Aviation Centre of Excellence, or ACE, is the aviation department facility for Confederation College The building consists of two hangars, classrooms, shops, labs, and offices for the three aviation programs available at the School of Aviation. Origin In the late 1990s, Confederation College relocated its programs for Flight Management, Aircraft Maintenance, and Aerospace Manufacturing in one larger facility where students would have new equipment and facilities. Derek Burney, was the CEO and President of CAE. Air Canada donated one of its retired Douglas DC-9-32 aircraft (C-FTLT) which arrived for the grand opening celebrations. The aircraft landed with Confederation College emblems in addition to the Air Canada tail paint. The aircraft would later be painted in classic Air Canada colours for a movie shoot.
