Education In Spokane, Washington
The Spokane Public Library and Spokane County Library District system provide the Spokane area with access to information and study space. Secondary education is provided by Spokane Public Schools with its six high schools, six middle schools, and thirty-four elementary schools. Public charter, private, and parochial schools offer more choices of study. Higher education in Spokane is served by the Community Colleges of Spokane system (Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College) and two private universities, Gonzaga University and Whitworth University as well as various trade and technical schools. The University District in Downtown Spokane is also host to branch locations of regional universities such as Washington State University Spokane and its medical school, the Elson S. Spokane Public Library
The Spokane Public Library is a public library system serving the city of Spokane, Washington, US. It has five branches and a central library in downtown Spokane, along with a bookmobile and online services. The library system was acquired by the municipal government in 1894 and is funded by the city budget and a separate property tax. History The Spokane Public Library was established in 1894, after two unsuccessful attempts at creating a library system in the city. The system was acquired by the city from the Union Library Association, a partnership between the Sorosis Club and Carpenters Union, who had started the private library in 1891. The library rented space inside the city hall's basement, with a permanent location sought with funding from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Mead School District
Mead School District No. 354 is a public School district serving Mead, Washington, Mead and North Spokane, Washington, Spokane communities for over 100 years. Over 10,000 students attend the 15 schools in the district which consists of two high schools, an alternative high school, a Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, STEM academy, two middle schools, eight elementary schools, and the Mead Education Partnership Program at Five Mile Prairie School House. The school district currently has two additional schools, a middle school and elementary school under construction, slated for opening in fall 2020.
