Eduardo Torralba Beci
Eduardo Torralba Beci (1881–1929) was a Spanish journalist and politician. He joined different left-wing parties and co-founded Communist Workers Party. He was among the editors-in-chief of '' El Socialista'', official organ of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party. Biography Torralba was born in 1881. He was a journalist by profession. In 1904 he began to head the Spanish Socialist Youth. He was arrested and detained in 1906 due to his statements which were regarded as insults to the religion. He was a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party. Between 1914 and 1916 he served at the executive committee of the General Union of Workers. In 1914 he was also appointed editor-in-chief of the official newspaper of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party, ''El Socialista''. Torralba replaced Mariano García Cortes in the post. The Spanish Communist Workers' Party (''Partido Comunista Obrero Español'') was a communist party founded on April 13, 1921 by the ''terceristas'', including Virginia González Polo, Daniel Anguiano, Eduardo Torralba Beci, Manuel Núñez Arenas, Luis Mancebo and Evaristo Gil, who had been trying to persuade the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) to join the Third International. ''El Socialista'' is a socialist newspaper published in Madrid, Spain. The paper is the organ of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). History and profile ''El Socialista'' was established by Pablo Iglesias, founder of the PSOE, in Madrid, and the first issue appeared on 12 March 1886. The paper is owned and published by the PSOE and its union, Union General de Trabajadores (UGT). The headquarters of the paper is in Madrid. It was started as a two-page publication. The Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT, General Union of Workers) is a major Spanish trade union, historically affiliated with the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). History The UGT was founded 12 August 1888 by Pablo Iglesias Posse in Mataró (Barcelona), with Marxist socialism as its ideological basis, despite its statutory apolitical status. Until its nineteenth Congress in 1920, it did not consider class struggle as a basic principle of trade union action. Being a member of the UGT implies an affiliation to the PSOE and vice versa. During World War I era, the UGT followed a tactical line of close relationship and unity of action with the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT, National Labour Confederation). Pablo Iglesias Posse (17 October 1850 – 9 December 1925) was a Spanish socialist and Marxism, Marxist Labour movement, labour leader. He is regarded as the father of Spanish socialism, having founded the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) in 1879 and the Unión General de Trabajadores, Spanish General Workers' Union (UGT) in 1888. Biography Iglesias was born in Ferrol, Spain, Ferrol son to Pedro Iglesias and Juana, humble parents who called him Paulino. He attended school between the ages of six and nine, when his father, a municipal laborer, died. Manuel, his younger brother, and their mother put their possessions in a small covered cart and walked with it to live in Madrid.
