Eduardo Carrasco
Eduardo Guillermo Carrasco Pirard (born July 2, 1940 in Santiago) is a Chilean musician, university professor of philosophy, author, and one of the founders of the Chilean folk music group Quilapayún - and the group's musical director from 1969 to 1989. Biography Carraco studied at the elite José Victorino Lastarria Lyceum in Santiago and then entered the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile to study philosophy; he subsequently travelled to Germany to study at the Ruprecht Karl Universitat of Heidelberg. In 1964 he returned to Chile to continue his study of philosophy at the University of Chile and in 1965 he forms the musical ensemble Quilapayun with his brother Julio Carrasco and his friend Julio Numhauser. Roberto Matta
Roberto Sebastián Antonio Matta Echaurren (; November 11, 1911 – November 23, 2002), better known as Roberto Matta, was one of Chile's best-known painters and a seminal figure in 20th century abstract expressionist and surrealist art. Biography Matta was of Spanish, Basque and French descent. Born in Santiago, he studied architecture and interior design at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago, and graduated in 1935. That spring, he journeyed from Peru to Panama and completed surreal drawings of many of the geographical features he witnessed. He first encountered Europe while serving in the Merchant Marine after graduating. His travels in Europe and the USA led him to meet artists such as Arshile Gorky, René Magritte, Salvador Dalí, André Breton, and Le Corbusier. ''Basta'' ''(Enough!/Das genügt!)'' is an album that was released by Quilapayún in 1969. It brings together popular and folk songs from Latin America, the former USSR, and Italy. This album included "La muralla"/The wall - one of the most popular folk songs in Latin America - based on the text of a poem by the Cuban poet Nicolás Guillén. X Vietnam (album)
''X Vietnam'' or ''Por Vietnam'' is an album by Quilapayún released in 1968. This was among the first albums to be released under the DICAP label and was a success upon its release in Chile. The music and subject matter of the recording is very internationalist and was the first recording success of the Nueva Canción Chilena. The album opens with a song denouncing the war in Vietnam, has songs from the Spanish Revolution, Afro-Cuban rhythms, an Italian folk song, a Soviet youth anthem and a song by Juan Capra that mourns the death of Che Guevara. Songs by Violeta Parra and Sergio Ortega inter alia with the local folkloric rhythms and social themes complete the album. The song ''"Los Pueblos Americanos"'' by Violeta Parra denounces disputes over national boundaries and calls on Latin America to unite. ''Canciones folklóricas de América'' (Folk Songs of America) is the third studio album by Chilean singer-songwriter Víctor Jara, and second by Chilean folk group Quilapayún released in 1967, on the EMI and Odeon labels. Music The album was performed by Jara and Quilapayun, who established a "musical society" that began in 1966. It begins with a Jara's performance in English of Hush-a-bye, and although the album is called "Canciones folklóricas de América", includes two songs of Spanish origin, "Paloma del palomar" and "El tururururú". "Gira, gira, girasol" was written by Victor and the last song on the album, "El coneji", was originally a poem by Chilean Carlos Préndez Saldías, to which Víctor put music. El Reencuentro was the name that six ex-members of musical group Menudo used for their comeback project remembering Menudo's golden era. Ricky Melendez, Rene Farrait, Miguel Cancel, Johnny Lozada, Ray Reyes, and Charlie Masso re-joined to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their success in Latin America, North America, Spain and several other countries in the world.
