Eduard Knoblauch
(Carl Heinrich) Eduard Knoblauch (born 25 September 1801 in Berlin; died 29 May 1865 in Berlin) was a Germans, German architect. Eduard Knoblauch was born in his family's house on Poststraße 23 in the Nikolaiviertel neighborhood in Berlin, Germany. He studied at the Berliner ''Bauakademie'' under Karl Friedrich Schinkel successfully passing a series of examinations (1818 ''Feldmesserprüfung'', 1822 ''Kondukteurprüfung'', 1828 ''Baumeisterprüfung''). He was one of the co-founders of the ''Architektenvereins'' (architects' society) in Berlin in 1824 and was on its executive board until 1862. He edited the ''Zeitschrift für Bauwesen'' (Journal for Building) for many years. After the conclusion of his studies in 1828 he traveled in Germany and Holland. Together with fellow architect Friedrich August Stüler he traveled in 1829/1830 to France, Switzerland and Italy. He married Julie Verhuven in 1831 and had with her two sons and four daughters. Schloss Schlemmin
Schloss Schlemmin is a Gothic Revival ''Schloss'' in Schlemmin, Germany. It is a hotel and restaurant. History The presently visible building was built in 1846-50 to designs by architect Eduard Knoblauch; the foundations are however those of a medieval fortress, dating from the 14th century. The current building was constructed for Wilhelm Ulrich von Thun. During World War II, the castle was used as a hospital an refugee camp. The publisher specializes in books about art, cultural history, architecture, and historic preservation. History Deutscher Kunstverlag was founded in 1921 in Berlin. Azra Charbonnier
Azra was a Croatian and Yugoslav rock band that was one of the most popular acts of the Yugoslav new wave music of the 1980s. Azra was formed in 1977 by its frontman Branimir "Johnny" Štulić. The other two members of the original line-up were Mišo Hrnjak ( bass) and Boris Leiner ( drums). The band is named after a verse "''Und der Sklave sprach: “Ich heiße Mohamet, ich bin aus Yemen, Und mein Stamm sind jene Asra, Welche sterben, wenn sie lieben.”''" (trans. New Synagogue (Berlin)
The New Synagogue (german: Neue Synagoge) on Oranienburger Straße in Berlin is a mid-19th century synagogue built as the main place of worship for Berlin's Jewish community, succeeding the Old Synagogue which the community outgrew. Because of its eastern Moorish style and resemblance to the Alhambra, the New Synagogue is an important architectural monument in Germany. The building was designed by Eduard Knoblauch. Following Knoblauch's death in 1865, Friedrich August Stüler took responsibility for the majority of its construction as well as for its interior arrangement and design. It was inaugurated in the presence of Count Otto von Bismarck, then Minister President of Prussia, in 1866. One of the few synagogues to survive Kristallnacht, it was badly damaged prior to and during World War II and subsequently much was demolished; the present building on the site is a reconstruction of the ruined street frontage with its entrance, dome and towers, and only a few rooms behind.
