Eduard Alver
Eduard Alver (15 March 1886, Valga – 15 August 1939, Tallinn) was an Estonian lawyer, policeman, politician, and the Commander of the Estonian Defence League (''Kaitseliit'') during the Estonian War of Independence. 1906-1911 he studied medicine at the University of Vienna, and he also studied law at University of Tartu, received his master's degree in law at Moscow University. From 4 April 1919 to 24 October 1919, he was the Commander of the Estonian Defence League. From 1935 until 1936, he was the executive director of Eesti Kultuurfilm. Alver died in 1939 and was buried in Liiva Cemetery in Tallinn. Alver's grandson Siim Kallas and great-granddaughter Kaja Kallas later both became prime minister of Estonia.Even further from Russia: what is known about ... Valga, Estonia
Valga (german: Walk) is a town in southern Estonia and the capital of Valga County and Valga Parish. Until their separation in 1920, Valga and the town of Valka in northern Latvia were one town. They are now twin-towns. The area of Valga is and that of Valka is . Their populations are respectively 12,261 and 6,164. On 21 December 2007 all border-crossing points were removed and roads and fences opened between the two countries with both countries joining the Schengen Agreement. Order Of The Cross Of The Eagle
The Order of the Cross of the Eagle ( et, Kotkaristi teenetemärk; french: Ordre de la Croix de l'Aigle) was instituted in 1928 by the Estonian Defence League to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Estonian independence. It was adopted as a state order in 1936. The Order of the Cross of the Eagle is bestowed to give recognition for military services and services in the field of national defence. It is awarded in civil and military divisions. The awards made to members of the military are denoted by the addition of crossed swords to the decoration.
