Edmund Grey, 1st Earl Of Kent
Edmund Grey, 1st Earl of Kent (26 October 141622 May 1490), English administrator, nobleman and magnate, was the son of Sir John Grey, KG and Constance Holland. His main residence was at Wrest near Silsoe, Bedfordshire. Lineage Through Constance Holland, he was great-grandson of John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster, the third son of King Edward III of England, by his first wife, and thus grand-nephew of King Henry IV of England and Philippa of Lancaster. Grey succeeded his grandfather Reginald Grey, 3rd Baron Grey de Ruthyn in 1440. He married Lady Katherine Percy, who was also a great-granddaughter of John of Gaunt by his third wife, Katherine Swynford, and also a descendant of King Edward III of England through his second son, Lionel of Antwerp, 1st Duke of Clarence. Edmund William Dwyer Gray (29 December 1845 – 27 March 1888) was an Irish newspaper proprietor, politician and MP in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Edmund John Chisholm Dwyer-Gray (2 April 18706 December 1945) was an Irish-Australian politician, who was the 29th Premier of Tasmania from 11 June to 18 December 1939. He was a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). Early life He was born Edmund John Chisholm Dwyer Gray on 2 April 1870 in Dublin, Ireland, the son of Edmund Dwyer Gray, an MP in the British House of Commons and Caroline Agnes Gray. He was the maternal grandson of Caroline Chisholm, the English humanitarian renowned for her social welfare work with female immigrants to Australia. His paternal grandfather was Sir John Gray, the Irish Member of Parliament for Kilkenny City in the House of Commons, and an associate of the Irish nationalist Daniel O'Connell. Edmund Harry Gray (5 September 1878 – 9 June 1964) was an Australian trade unionist and politician who was a Labor Party member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1923 to 1952, representing West Province. He served as a minister in the governments of John Willcock and Frank Wise. Early life Gray was born in Upper Stratton, Wiltshire, England, to Wilmott (née Barnett) and George Gray. He left school at the age of 14, and was apprenticed to a baker and confectioner in Swindon. He was later employed in a bakery in Hull before finding work as a steward on a transatlantic ocean liner. Gray arrived in Australia in 1898, working his way over on a cargo boat and then getting a job at the smelting works in Port Pirie, South Australia. He moved the following year to Broken Hill, New South Wales, initially working in a timbermill and then opening a bakery and catering business.
