Edmund Baggs
Edmund Henry "Harry" Baggs (1865 – 6 July 1949) was a South Australian art teacher and painter, mostly of landscapes in oils, c. 1890–1920. Baggs conducted painting lessons in watercolours and oils, also Poonah and Electric Painting at his studio on Finniss Street, North Adelaide in 1894, later on Kensington Road, Norwood. In the South Australian Society of Arts Annual Report of 1902–1903 his address was listed as 75, Parade, Norwood, then from 1904–1907, his address was the Studio, 84 Royal Exchange. From 1908-1910, he was at Rundle Street east. He was a Fellow of the SASA from 1904 to 1910, after which his name does not appear in their Annual Reports. He sold many of his paintings on the art union principle; a kind of raffle where the artist is the beneficiary and art works are the prizes. Junee, New South Wales
Junee () is a medium-sized town in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The town's prosperity and mixed services economy is based on a combination of agriculture, rail transport, light industry and government services, and in particular correctional services. In 2015 Junee's urban population was 4,762. Place name One theory is that word ''Junee'' which originates from the Aboriginal word 'Junee' means "speak to me". Another theory is that it is an Aboriginal word "Choo-nee" meaning "frog". History The Wiradjuri people are the traditional owners of the local area prior to European settlement. Leopold de Salis (1816-1898), pastoralist and later politician was one of the first squatters to open up the Riverina region to grazing. He established the 'Junee' pastoral run in 1845. Monte Cristo Homestead
Monte Cristo Homestead is a historic homestead located in the town of Junee, New South Wales, Australia. Constructed by local pioneer Christopher William Crawley in 1885, it is a double-storey late- Victorian-style manor standing on a hill overlooking the town. The Crawley family remained in residence until 1948. The house then stood empty under the care of several caretakers until 1963, when it was purchased by Reg and Olive Ryan, who restored it to its current condition. The homestead operates as a museum and antiques showcase, and tourist attraction with curio/souvenir shop, advertising itself as "Australia's most haunted house".
