Edmonton Public Schools (legally Edmonton School Division) is the largest public school division in Edmonton, the second largest in Alberta, and the sixth largest in Canada. The division offers a variety of alternative and special needs programs, and many are offered in multiple locations to improve accessibility for students. As a public school division, Edmonton Public Schools accepts all students who meet age and residency requirements set out in provincial legislation. Size Edmonton Public Schools operates 212 schools. Kingsway, sometimes called Kingsway Avenue, is an arterial road in central Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, that runs on a northwest to southeast path, cutting through the city's normal street grid, grid pattern. Parkdale School was a city centre K-9 public school located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Built in 1912, it is one of Edmonton's oldest schools. Parkdale was one of seven schools belonging to the Edmonton Public Schools City Centre Education Project. During its final years of operation, Parkdale was one of five Edmonton Public Schools that operated on a modified school calendar. Students attended classes the same number of days as other schools, but breaks were spread differently throughout the year. Instead of the customary two month summer holiday that is enjoyed by other Edmonton students, Parkdale’s summer holiday was condensed to five weeks in July. Strathcona High School, colloquially referred to as Scona and SCHS, is a public high school located in Edmonton, Alberta. The school was referred to as Strathcona Composite High School until 2014. A $6.1 million modernization project was completed in 2015 and the school now enrolls approximately 1500 students.
