Edmonton Brick Men
The Edmonton Brick Men (also Edmonton Brickmen) were a Canadian soccer team in Edmonton, Alberta that competed in the Canadian Soccer League and the Western Soccer Alliance. During their time in the WSA and the CSL, the team played at both John Ducey Park and Clarke Stadium for their matches. The choice of John Ducey Park was due in part to the sharing of costs with the Edmonton Trappers. History The Edmonton Brick Men were formed in 1985 to fill the void for professional soccer in the city after the Edmonton Drillers of the NASL had folded in 1982 and the Edmonton Eagles of the Canadian Professional Soccer League folded in 1983. The club was owned by Edmonton Oilers owner Peter Pocklington (who previously owned the Drillers) with seed money provided by the Edmonton-based furniture company, The Brick Warehouse, for whom the club was named after, with the logo using the same font for the word ''Brick'' as the furniture retailer. John Ducey Park
John Ducey Park was a 6,500-seat baseball stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Originally built in 1933, it was torn down after sixty years of use in 1995 and replaced by Telus Field on the same site. Beginning in 1981, John Ducey Park was the home field for the AAA Edmonton Trappers of the Pacific Coast League. The stadium was originally known as ''Renfrew Park'', but was renamed in later years for John Ducey, an Edmonton baseball executive, promoter, general manager, scout and coach. Prior to Renfrew Park, Diamond Park was Edmonton's main baseball field. The field could hold a maximum of 2,500 spectators by law. John Ducey Park was the site where in 1982 Ron Kittle of the Trappers hit his 50th home run of the season in the last game of the year. Kittle was named Minor League Player of the Year. Dundee Football Club is a professional football club based in the city of Dundee, Scotland, founded in 1893. The team are nicknamed "The Dark Blues" or "The Dee". John Baretta
John Baretta (born May 6, 1955) is a Canadian retired soccer goalkeeper who played in the North American Soccer League, Major Indoor Soccer League and American Soccer League. Baretta attended Eastern Illinois University where he was a 1978 All American soccer player. John was regarded as one of the all-time best at the collegiate level by renowned college coach Schellas Hyndman. In 1979, he turned professional with the Indianapolis Daredevils of the American Soccer League. In 1980, he moved to the Edmonton Drillers of North American Soccer League. Bob Ammann
Bob "Bobby" Ammann (born May 27, 1965) is a retired Swiss-American soccer goalkeeper. Being a competitive NCAA Division I collegiate and professional athlete has helped Ammann develop a strong work ethic and competitive drive. Ammann's athletic experience as well as his social, business and institutional experiences has provided him a strong foundation to be an effective consultant for a wide spectrum of industries. He was previously the men's head soccer coach at Cal State Fullerton. He played professionally in the United States, Canada, Switzerland and England. The 1990 Canadian Soccer League season was the fourth season of play for the Canadian Soccer League, a Division 1 men's soccer league in the Canadian soccer pyramid. Format and changes from previous season The Kitchener Spirit and London Lasers joined the Canadian Soccer League as an expansion teams for the 1990 season, with both joining the East Division. Meanwhile, the Calgary Strikers folded following the 1989 season. As a result of those team changes, the league had a seven-team East Division and a four-team West Division. Format The schedule was not a balanced schedule based on the league principle of playing each club home and away due to travel concerns. History of the 1986 Western Soccer Alliance season. History After the success of the 1985 Western Alliance Challenge Series, three of the teams from that series, F.C. Seattle, F.C. Portland and the San Jose Earthquakes established the Western Soccer Alliance. The Victoria Riptide, a participant in 1985, did not return but was replaced by the Edmonton Brick Men which had played games against the series team in 1985.
